Meet Asia Wheeler of Simply Sol

Today we’d like to introduce you to Asia Wheeler. 

Hi Asia, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I have suffered from dry, easily irritated skin and eczema for my entire life. I’ve tried product after product to find something that didn’t cause a reaction. In January of 2020, I became fed up and researched ingredients specifically for my sensitive skin. Although I started researching just for myself, I figured that I couldn’t be the only one out there with this problem, so I got the idea to start a brand and Simply Sol took off from there! 

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Deciding to start a business of course hasn’t been easy! I cannot speak for everyone, but one of my biggest struggles at this moment in my business journey is the imposter syndrome. It is so easy to see other business owners (especially with how easily accessible social media is) and compare yourself and your journey to them. 

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I believe what makes Simply Sol so unique is that I, as a young black woman, have created a brand completely by myself (with of course the support and love from my friends and family). There is a shortage of young African American female entrepreneurs and I am so happy to be one of them. The best thing about Simply Sol is that when you support it, you don’t support a huge corporation, you support a young woman of color with a dream of helping people become comfortable in their skin, regardless of their disorders and sensitivities. You support someone who does a happy dance when an order comes through and one who values any and all feedback so that she can continue to make the greatest products for your skin. 

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
When I participate in events and markets, people are always so surprised when I tell them that I am a complete one-woman show. Of course, at in-person events, I am lucky enough to have the support of my friends and family who hang out with me all day and watch my booth when I have to step away or do some shopping! But for the most part, I create and market on my own. I am the maker, the product photographer, the package handler, the website designer, I do it all!
