Today we’d like to introduce you to Alison Kamis.

Hi Alison, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Ever since I was a little girl, I’ve loved taking photos. I still remember getting my first digital camera, it was tiny and bright pink, and I took it everywhere with me, capturing anything and everything. That creative curiosity stayed with me as I grew up and eventually led me to pursue a degree in theater, another passion of mine. I’ve always been drawn to storytelling and anything that allows me to express creativity. During COVID, I found myself at a bit of a crossroads after being unemployed and trying to figure out what was next. That unexpected pause ended up changing everything, it’s what led me to start Alison Kay Photography. I officially launched my business in September 2022, and it has truly been one of the greatest blessings of my life. Now, as I approach my four-year anniversary, I feel incredibly grateful for how far this journey has taken me and so excited for what’s ahead.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely has not been a smooth road. Starting my photography business came with so many challenges. Figuring out how to actually run a business, market myself, manage finances, and build a clientele, all while trying to stay afloat.
There were also a lot of moments of self-doubt and imposter syndrome, especially early on. I questioned whether I was good enough or if I could really create a business that would sustain me long-term. But those challenges are what pushed me to grow into who I am today. Each obstacle taught me something new and helped me build not only a stronger business, but more confidence in myself.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Alison Kay Photography is a wedding and portrait photography business focused on capturing genuine, emotional moments in a way that feels both timeless and full of life. I specialize in weddings, couples, and family sessions, with a style that blends posing, natural movement, and storytelling. What really sets my work apart is my focus on how moments feel, not just how they look. I’m always looking to capture the in-between moments so when my clients look back at their photos, they’re not just seeing memories, they’re reliving them.

How do you think about happiness?
I’m an empath through and through, which can be both a blessing and a curse but at my core, what truly makes me happy is seeing other people happy. There’s something so special about getting to be a part of life’s most special moments and capturing that joy for others. Being able to preserve those emotions through my work is so fulfilling and something I never take for granted.
Outside of my business, my happiness comes from spending time with my family, my fiancé, and my families dogs. They keep me grounded and remind me what matters most!
