Today we’d like to introduce you to TreVor Fields.
Hi TreVor, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’ve been singing for as long as I can remember. In high school I decided that I would take music seriously and make my own. During that time, I only created covers and things in the closet of my bedroom because I was shy and didn’t want anyone to hear my voice. Around this time, I also joined high school choir and discovered my voice, and my love for music and singing only grew. Since then and throughout college I’ve been involved in choirs, making YouTube covers, and I most recently graduated with my bachelor’s in classical voice performance. I released my first EP “Apollo” in 2021 and I’ve since released a few singles.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The main struggles I’ve experience have been finding my voice. Refining what I want to sing and create and how I want my image to be received. It’s a never-ending self-discovery journey, but it’s so fun. I also struggled translating the images I have in my head into tangible art, mostly due to limited resources (or budgets). I have a great team of artists who are my best friends, and they have really been the backbone of my career so far in helping me bring my imagination to life. You’ll see me always referencing and shouting them out.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m an R&B Pop artist. I love to sing and my idols are Whitney Houston, Michael Jackson, and all the greats really. I think what sets me apart is my background in classical music training. I wanted to study classical music and singing especially because the techniques can be applied into any genre. As I keep making music, I want to experiment with all genres. For now, I’m exploring what’s most familiar to me, which is R&B and soul. I’m most known for my singing voice. I want my voice to be the focal point of my art, and my image should wrap it all up in an awesome little package! So far, I’m most proud of my first EP “Apollo” which I released in 2021. It marked me taking the first step in establishing myself as a legitimate musical artist. It was also when I changed my name officially and began branding myself.
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs, or other resources you think our readers should check out?
My podcast with my bestfriend KyngJermaine is really something I love being a part of. We discuss everything that has to do with being young black creatives and every week it’s so refreshing to have such interesting conversations. It’s also like just hanging out and talking with my brother like we do anyway. It’s called “TheUnalikePodcast,” and you can find it anywhere podcasts are available.
