Today we’d like to introduce you to Todd Duvall.
Hi Todd, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started life in Western Toledo, in the Oak Openings region of NW Ohio, and in that location grew a deep love for our natural environment and the way are waters and watersheds are fundamental to the health of those wild areas around us. My professional history has taken me from coast to coast, always working in connection to the aquatic environment as a professional beach lifeguard and professional ski patroller for 8 years. This appreciation of our surroundings and the way humanity interacts and effects it, lead me into architecture design which I received degrees in and practiced professionally for 7 years. Working in design with clients, communities and municipalities fueled my passion for creating collaborative solutions, and that naturally moved my mind to my original past-time, the aquatic environment. My current position as Executive Director at Partners for Clean Streams creates an avenue in my life to bring all those parts of my life together, for a cause that has always been a deep part of my life.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road has not been smooth, but it has been rewarding. Living in shacks in the beach, and locker rooms in the mountains, created an appreciation for what we have and how much comfort we are willing to give up in order to follow those passions. Completing university at an older age, while starting a family, and working jobs at 3rd shift times, to construction and starting my own design furniture company, refined my mind to strive in making an worldly impact that isn’t just a puddle, but a ocean of depth.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
The thing I am most proud of is the relationships that I have around my passions in life. Connecting to those around me, daily inspires every part of my life, and is the core of my job.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Knocking on doors, asking questions, showing patience with the answers, and saying yes, even when you are afraid to, are all parts of my life that has brought me to where I am today.
