Tanehisi, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’ve always been an outspoken and opinionated person so when I was introduced to podcasting, I was instantly intrigued. Creating your own space to discuss your thoughts and opinions was something I knew I wanted to do. I knew that if I wanted to record somewhere I would want it to be my own. So soon after I began the process of creating my own studio. I honestly had no idea what I was doing so that coupled with a bad business deal caused a change of plans. So, I started with a guest-based YouTube channel then soon after the pandemic hit, and with Covid being such a new thing to everybody I wasn’t really comfortable recording with new guests. So, I decided to enroll in media school to perfect my craft and prepare for a comeback. Fast forward to the end of 2020 when the world was becoming more comfortable and quarantine was coming to an end I decided to go with another approach and look for a permanent co-host. Well, one turned into four and from that came “No Filters The Podcast”. We discuss everything from music and tv to sex and relationships. We are still a guest-based pod and pride ourselves on using our platform to highlight upcoming artists, entrepreneurs, and fellow podcasters. We recently celebrated our one-year anniversary in December of 2021. We drop new episodes biweekly and we can be watched on YouTube or listened to on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and Google Podcasts.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
This was definitely a learn as we go type of thing. From mastering content creation, scheduling mishaps with our guests, studio, and videographer, coming up with interesting topics to discuss, to having to downsize to just me, Mo, & Shawna. It hasn’t been easy at all but we’ve gained and grown so much in the process
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
A lot of ppl think podcasting is just getting on a mic or in front of a camera and just talking but there’s so much more to it behind the scenes than you may think. Getting our studio, videographer, guests, and all the hosts to agree on one day and time to record can sometimes be a hassle. Also coming up with hot topics to keep our viewers and listeners interested and tuned in can be a little challenging. You always want the conversation to flow effortlessly as well and not seem scripted so as a host learning how to properly segue and flow the different topics to keep the conversation going is definitely something I’ve had to master. I’m proud of us for sticking it out most podcast don’t even make it to the 5th episode let alone a whole year worth. But one thing that sets us apart is our “No Filters” approach to everything we discuss. We definitely live up to our name.
