Life & Work with Steph Matus

Today we’d like to introduce you to Steph Matus.

Hi Steph, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
Vintage Vibes Rental LLC began May 2021: The desire was to help the environment by revamping antiques for rent and to sell fun secondhand clothing…

My mission as owner of Vintage Vibes is to inspire others to stay authentic & embrace their own unique style. The quote that speaks to me most and defines my brand is “Flower Child with a Rock n Roll Heart.”

…I’m THRILLED to have a physical storefront opening 2023 in downtown Elyria, OH. You can follow along on IG to watch the step-by-step demo/remodel journey. This store is a lifelong dream, and I’ll be able to offer the following=

⚡️Rental inventory (decor, furniture, props, pampas grass, dried palms, neon signs, archways, glassware) will be on display for potential clients to see before committing.

⚡️Dedicated area for event consultations: Meet in person to discuss your event styling and/or rental needs.

⚡️Space for mini-workshops & creative classes plus photo backdrops for collabs.

⚡️Hundreds of curated retail items to browse: IE. Women & Men’s apparel, cowboy boots, bags, jewelry, belts, hats, boho home decor, records, sunglasses.

⚡️Dressing room to try on before customers buy, especially because vintage sizes can vary.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
As with most small businesses, the path forward is sometimes scary and uncertain. I have always wanted to make a living being creative, and it has taken decades of working other unfulfilling jobs to lead me to this moment.

Being an entrepreneur has its ups & downs, but as Dolly Parton says, “Find out who you are and do it on purpose.” Since I was very little, I’ve been taking theme parties to the next level. I’m finally ready to commit to being a store owner, and cannot wait to have the Vintage Vibes storefront open for shoppers next year.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I have a passion for thrifting, interior design, fashion, decorating, travel and dogs. As a previous CLE wedding photographer, I have the logistical knowledge to help plan your event… and the creativity to bring your Pinterest board come alive. If I’m not hunting for treasures at the flea market, I’m re-purposing furniture in the garage or setting up the VV pop-up booth all over Northeast Ohio.

My version of spreading joy is making spaces beautiful thru design, and I love helping my clients event visions become reality. At market events, I feel our booth draws in shoppers who appreciate retro-inspired items such as: Fringe jackets, sequin bell bottoms, faux fur anything, turquoise jewelry, handmade bolo ties, rattan & wicker home decor, western keychains/coozies, concho belts, Stevie Nicks coffee mugs, disco ball earrings, thrifted vinyl, Harley Davidson tees and heart-shaped sunglasses.

Alright, so before we go, can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
