Today we’d like to introduce you to Russ Hall.
Hi Russ, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
Russ Hall was born in Cleveland, Ohio, and raised in the Maple Heights area. Russ was a 2002 Maple Heights alum who also holds an Engineering degree. Anchoring his career in this field has been a great experience, but the most amazing things that are taking place in his life at this particular time is his strong involvement in the hip-hop community and being deeply embedded in music… He draws on aspects of his Midwest roots and delivers a suave, witty, and lyrical performance that is the personification of “Cool.” No frills, just real, Hip-Hop.
Russ Hall’s musical journey began in 1998 at the age of thirteen; after being exposed to many different genres of music very early on, Rap/HipHop was the one that caught his attention. This is the time when he started writing rhymes just for fun, more so as a hobby, but he quickly became motivated by various hip-hop pioneers, mainly the Notorious B.I.G and The Fresh Prince. His interest in these artist didn’t stop at their musical abilities. He also had admiration for their work on and off the stage. As time progressed, his songwriting skills enhanced and his involvement in music became more serious. Russ Hall then started to dedicate more time into trying to pursue his own career.
Russ has done stage performances in and around the Cleveland area, including locations such as The B-Side, Roc Bar, The Grog Shop, and Phantasy. Outside of Cleveland, he has performed in Atlanta, Georgia at Union EAV and in New York City’s Santos Party House. Some performances also include collaborating with live bands as well.
Russ has 6 studio produced projects starting with “The Cool Room” (2011) followed by “Members Only” (2013); “RSHD” (2014); “The Cool Room 2” (2018); “5211” (2019); “BEAUTIFUL” (2020) and his most recent release “Sincerely, Yours. Vol. 1” (2022) can be found on all DSPs
In 2015 Russ was selected by “I’m from Cleveland” (Imfromcleveland.com) music blog as one of the top ten up-and-coming artist in the city of Cleveland. He was also featured in other publications such as “The Call and Post.” Russ has also worked alongside SweatBeatz, (2020 – currently) on several projects that were pitched to mainstream television and movies for placement.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Overall, the obstacles and struggles have been moderate. But like anything worth attaining in life it comes with its fair share of ups and downs. The biggest thing that I’d say was a struggle for me was trusting the right people in the industry at times. From my past experience, I’ve encountered quite a few individuals who aren’t as genuine as they claim to be.
During those encounters, I became increasingly motivated to adjust my focus. It’s all a part of the grind, and I take it with a grain of salt.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’ve been a recording artist for quite some time now, but what I love the most about my artistry is the growth and maturity I’ve constantly displayed in my music over the years. I pride myself on creating a comfortable, moody vibe for all listeners. Inviting them on a perfectly painted ride to the coolest room possible. Allowing listeners to sit back and reminisce while I provide the soundtrack to your thoughts. It’s beautiful.
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
I’ve been focused on transitioning my music to the big screen. One of my goals this year is to get more involved with sync licensing. I would love for my music to truly become a soundtrack to the top television shows and movies that we all love to watch. I’ve been doing the proper steps to reach that goal, and I’m really excited for what the future holds.
