Today we’d like to introduce you to Robert Glover.
Hi Robert, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started after many years of working jobs that I liked but never loved. I loved tattoos since I was very young and always knew i wanted to do them myself or be a part of the trade in some way. The lifestyle really enticed me at a young age. I had a good mentor for a year and he passed away unfortunately. So after taking a very long hiatus from getting tattoos I finally came back strong and have been chasing this dream for several decades. I started teaching myself and doing things the hard way and ultimately the wrong way. Eventually a childhood friend had reached out and had moved away but said he tattooed and I should come visit him since he saw that I was teaching myself. He lived here in Cincinnati, so I bit the bullet and visited. It was then that I knew I had to drop everything I knew and come out here to see what I can accomplish. I’ve been here for 4 years in August and have built a life I’ve only dreamed of. I love this city and I have an amazing family and close friends and good people I surround myself with
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Its been a tough road. I’ve suffered a great deal of loss in life with family, friends, mentors. I got a later start than I wish I had and I’ve taught myself a lot. I’ve also had close friends and tattooers in the industry I admire help so much along the way. I’ve lost relationships, as well as gained the most meaningful family figures in my life by dropping everything I knew for over 30 years to just move across the country from Arizona to Ohio and chase a dream. Its not easy, but nothing that’s worth anything in life is easy
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I have found in the short time I’ve been tattooing that I tend to have the most fun with the darker imagery and letters. I like to think I have great customer service, from working in restaurants for decades and just the service industry for every job I’ve had up until today. I love making people feel comfortable and the smiles on their faces when I’m done with the tattoo.
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
I was kind of a loud and crazy kid. Lots of annoying random noises that followed me into adulthood lol. I was definitely into drawing and art as a whole I was into graffiti in my youth and just loved the outdoors. Hiking skateboarding and just riding around with friends all day.
