Today we’d like to introduce you to Richaun Bunton.
Richaun, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My journey to the present is rooted in my experience as a young single mother who wanted to experience the fullness of life. My mind lived in a place where my son nor I would have to feel limited by society. Our experiences in life would not be limited by where we lived, my education level, or the way I spoke. My subject-verb agreement or lack thereof would not be a litmus of my character. As a young unmarried woman with a child, I knew I did not want to be bound by the world’s divisiveness. Its social constructs of race, class, gender, and religion were a box, and I knew we were much more significant than the box presented to me. I had this strong belief that love was universal and what connected humanity. So I knew that we and others were worth the same experience of LIVING. That thought firmly settled into my spirit; it fueled my desire to help those understand and embrace themselves and truly live as their heart desired- LIVING. This led me to become a trained, licensed social worker. I thought, if I could help people, including myself and my son, “manage” emotions, we could accomplish anything.
Many years later, married, and now the mother of 7, I found that part of that is true. Yes, managing emotions and the triggers from trauma and much of life’s experiences with injustices, heartbreaks, and joy is essential; however, finding your divine self helps you experience LIMITLESS LIVING. It is acknowledging that you are more than just a title. We have a purpose that far exceeds statistics, experiences of trauma our bodies and mind may hold onto, or those self-defeating thoughts that appear when you are on the brink of change. Those things don’t define you. What defines you is YOU! My mission has been to help others heal, transform, and tap into their divinity. I do this by providing spiritual support to individuals searching for increased feelings of happiness, a connection to their higher calling or seeking spiritual healing/comfort. Today, I provide support, counseling and other spiritual services (like meditation, etc. ) to individuals. I have a botanica, where I sell crystals, jewelry and other items to assist someone on their spiritual journey. I also host a weekly radio show that discusses spiritual practices and other tools to help someone increase their feelings of joy in life.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
This has not been a smooth road. Throughout my journey I have experienced the loss of my parents, the loss of myself (to the expectations of others), suffered long bouts of anxiety and faced depression. I also had to learn how to love myself to be able to receive love from others in a very balanced way. I have also had to learn how to not have my children live my trauma.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a Mother of Mysteries and Kemetic High Priestess who is known in my community as Mwt Djehuty Bn-r Ns-t Het Heru Nfr Nfraita. I specialize in spiritual disciplines such as reiki, ceremonial rituals, crystal education and therapy and oracle readings. Also as an ordained Minister, I unite couples in holy matrimony. To date, I am most proud of my ability to connect with the needs of our community and be in service to those who have a need and are seeking support. I think what separates me from others is my diverse understanding of other religions and cultures. And from that understanding, I am able to help people find comfort in using different types of spiritual disciplines to find comfort in their healing.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
What I like best about Cleveland is its Arts and Culture. Cleveland has many beautiful museums and wonderful artists that bring a sense of uniqueness to the many neighborhoods throughout the City. I’ve grown up in Cleveland my entire life and I don’t have any dislikes about the City. I have seen various iterations but at the center, it still holds my heart. It’s a place deep with history that I find a unique connection to.
