Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachel Dolby & Kian Weaver. 

Hi Rachel & Kian, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
We’re Kian and Rachel- Friends and Columbus natives that are excited to be on the Central, Ohio event and wedding floral scene! 

We love working together and have a mutual passion for flowers and event planning, so we started Flocal as a creative outlet for both. We have been working in Health Care IT and consulting for 10+ years, and the pandemic took a toll, as it did for everyone, in terms of time spent behind a desk and from a home office. As it wore on, we both were searching for an opportunity to not only get out and interact with our community but enjoy some time working with our hands and fostering our creativity. 

What we love most about floral arranging is that there is so much flexibility in the design and the budget. I think a lot of folks looking to plan an event think it takes years of experience (which certainly helps); however, a lot of beautiful designs can be accomplished with the right tools, florals, and greens, and a little coaching. We both know that flowers can be incredibly expensive, which is why we have been motivated to create DIY and design consultation packages so that costs are easier to control without sacrificing the visions of our clients. 

In this next year, we are looking forward to working with our Columbus family to grow our footprint and service weddings and a wide range of events with beautiful blooms! 

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
We’re in the early stages of getting the business up and running, and the events that we have done, however, have been great! 

The greatest challenge that we have is that sometimes it can be a scavenger hunt to find just the right bloom colors to bring a vision to life. That being said, that’s not been a problem we haven’t been able to solve, and we love the challenge! We love the collaboration with our clients to be able to deliver on all of their event goals, with the flexibility to select in-season greens and flowers that will be freshest for the event and cost-effective without sacrificing the design vision. It has been wonderful to work with a wide range of clients, all with very different floral desires because half the fun is curating it all.

We are different because we mean it when we say we have an option for everyone- we know that every event is unique in terms of budget and design, and we want to meet our clients at a place where they can sit back and enjoy their gorgeous flower vision come to life. We want to teach the community how accessible flowers can be and give them the skills to keep designing on their own. 

What are your plans for the future?
In this next year, we are looking forward to expanding in the 614 neighborhood- our big vision is to look into a storefront and mobile floral services to make flowers more accessible. Sustainability is also very near and dear to our hearts- we currently compost and recycle all of our materials and would love to expand into some flower farming. For now, we are just excited to get to know you all and book some breathtaking events!
