Life & Work with Paula Melo of Westerville

Today we’d like to introduce you to Paula Melo

Hi Paula, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
As long as I could remember I wanted to be someone. I love working with people and being a role model for the people I love, even though they might be far away. I’m from Caracas, Venezuela which is far from the place I am now which Westerville, Ohio in the United States. I love my Venezuela because that is where my family is at. I was young when I moved to the United States. It was a hard change. Until I found family from the people I found in the United States. I love both countries equally now.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Struggles like being away from home were hard because I did not know anyone. I only had family in Venezuela. Even though One of the worst struggles was adjusting to language and culture. When I learned English I went mute for three weeks. It was hard to adjust because we only spoke Spanish in Venezuela. The culture was also different. Example of this is eating arepas for breakfast while people in the United States eat pancakes.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Even though I am a nursing assistant now. I started modeling and got beauty contest called Miss Teen Ohio Latina. This is what I am most proud of. I am most proud of this because it gives me confidence and makes me a role model for other younger Latina girls.

Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
I love to read sometimes one of my favorite books is Change Your Thoughts Change Your Mind by Dr. Wayne W. Dyer.
