Life & Work with Patrice Nicole

Today we’d like to introduce you to Patrice Nicole. 

Hi Patrice, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
The foundation of Patrice Nicole started with my two girls. From the time my oldest turned 1, I was hosting elaborate creative kids’ parties. I loved to host, bring people together and watch them have a great time. Bringing family and friends together has always given me the ultimate high. 

However, it wasn’t until after my wedding that I realized that it was something that I wanted to extend to individuals outside of the family. I attempted to utilized many vendors for my 2012 nuptials however between price gouging and unsatisfactory customer service, I found myself creating my own save the dates, wedding invitations, wedding programs, favors, and more. My family and friends started asking me to create for their events which was the perfect Segway into what is now, Patrice Nicole! 

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Most creators glamorize the entrepreneurial life, but it’s not glamorous at all. Rewarding, YES!… but glamorous, hardly. 

There is a TikTok skit that says “I didn’t want to work a 9-5 so I started my own business and now I work 24hrs a day”. This is the most truthful statement on the internet! 

For most of this journey, I worked a full-time 9-5, creating after work and on the weekends. My 15-minute breaks was spent replying to client emails, some irate because I didn’t respond within the first 30 minutes and my lunch breaks were supply and post office runs. Not to mention, a husband and 2 children. 

Even while all of this was exhausting (to say the least), I got immediate gratification when my clients would send me photos or videos of their loved ones with tears of joy as they were opening items that I created. My heart literally melts, every single time, even ‘til this day. 

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I specialize in customized gifts and event favors. Turning images from life events into gifts that will last a lifetime. 

Aside from my creative nature, my ability to understand and connect with my clients set me apart from others. I take my orders personally as if I’m creating for myself. 

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
Not directly related to what I do professionally. I’m actually a credit nerd, so I listen to Black Married and Debt Free, Clever Girl Finance, and The Mental Wealth Show. 

Occasionally I’ll catch up on The Pink Lemonade Podcast and Brown Ambition.
