Life & Work with Olivia Dozier

Today we’d like to introduce you to Olivia Dozier.

Hi Olivia, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
My name is Olivia Dozier, and I’m a beauty, fashion, and lifestyle content creator. I was born and raised in the heart of Cleveland, OH. I had my first child at the age of 14 and that’s when my whole journey began. Before I became a content creator, I went to Baldwin Wallace University and earned my first bachelor degree in Biology. While earning my first degree, I decided that medical school would not fit the lifestyle I seen for my future, so I decided to enroll into an accelerated nursing program. After graduating Baldwin Wallace University, a semester early, I went right into a 16-month nursing program at Cleveland State University School of Nursing and earned my Bachelor degree in Nursing. I got my license and was hired on the NICU step-down unit at Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital. Currently, I am still a full-time RN while pursing the influencing career. The beauty world was always my liberating and empowering space while I was in school, so I became passionate about empowering women through beauty and fashion. I started my YouTube channel at first because I absolutely love the beauty/fashion lifestyle. However, as I grew more as an influencer, I realized how much more I had to offer other women through my life stories. When I had my daughter at the age of 14, I knew that one day I would inspire other women to never give up because I was so determined to be more than just a statistic. I help women feel seen and heard in this space; I help women build their confidence through beauty. I also believe through my story, I give women hope that anything can be accomplished no matter how hard life becomes. My goal is for women to feel just as beautiful and confident as I do when I put my makeup on or try on new clothes. I want women to live their best lives and be the best version of themselves no matter what life-changing event is thrown in their path.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My journey definitely had its challenges along the way. Both of my parents worked a lot and struggled really bad with their mental health, which made me learn a lot on my own. I grew up having everything until my parents had to file bankruptcy, and that was when I taught myself about credit and financial literacy. At a young age, I knew I never wanted to struggle financially, so I was determined to go to college so I can have a stable career. At 14, I had got pregnant and gave birth to my daughter Alanna. After having my daughter, I had to grow up really fast. My parents helped a lot with child care while I was in school because they knew I wanted to go right to college. It was hard-working part-time, going to school, and taking care of a baby. My freshman year of college taught me that I had a lot of growing up to do because the classes were extremely hard, and I had to teach myself time management/organization skills. My whole life I told myself I was going to be a doctor, and once I experienced what it actually took to become one, I decided that I no longer wanted to pursue that career. I struggled trying to figure out a career path because that’s all identified myself as and that’s all my family told me I would become. So that was hard on me. While in nursing school, my father passed away and I was completely devastated. However, I knew I couldn’t give up after that experience.

Fast forward, once I earned my degree in nursing, I started to pursue content creating part-time. Working full-time as an RN is exhausting in itself, so adding an extra career has definitely been draining me. The ugly truth about becoming an influencer is that it doesn’t happen overnight. Influencing can take a toll on your self-esteem if you let the numbers get to you. Brand deals can be hard to get sometimes, and when you do the sometimes don’t want to pay you what you’re worth.

Despite it all, I’m determine to have financial freedom for my family and I.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
So, I am registered nurse, and I specialize in neonatal intensive care. I also content create and influence on social media. I create beauty, fashion, and lifestyle content. I’m most known for my makeup looks and fashion style. I’m most proud of how well I create content that exerts my talents and personality all at the same time. TikTok has definitely became my most successful platforms. I’m at 66.9k followers and growing. What sets me apart from others is my authenticity. I am confident in who I am. I don’t try to pretend to be something I am not. I’m multifaceted so I can relate to many different kinds of people. I think that’s the most important thing about being an influencer is having the ability to relate to others. It’s cool to show the glitz and the glam, but it’s important to also show the grind and hustle.

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
If it’s one thing I want the readers to take away from this interview is to never give up and to always be yourself. Life will always throw you off course, but you cannot let that discourage you from pursuing your dreams and accomplishing your goals.
