Today we’d like to introduce you to Matt Parente.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started my career in 2014 with my Yoga Teacher Training, which showed me just how different everyone’s bodies and needs really are. That led me to complete Pilates training in 2016, where I learned the value of alignment, control, and meeting people where they are.
In 2017, I earned my ACE Personal Training Certification and completed FMS Level 2 training. This was when I really began blending strength, movement, and real-life coaching. I spent the next few years working in yoga studios, Pilates studios, and gyms, helping people from all walks of life feel more confident in their bodies.
When the pandemic hit in 2020 and the studios closed, I took that as a sign to build something new. I stepped away from the traditional fitness model and created Matt Parente Fitness, an online coaching business built on one simple belief: fitness doesn’t have one shape.
Today, I help people build strength, feel capable, and create habits that actually last; without extremes, guilt, or pressure.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It’s been quite the struggle to create a system that Im able to connect with clients via the internet with the same depth as I was accustomed to in person. Its also more challenging than ever to balance my responsibilities of work and home being a husband and father of two young children especially now that I use the computer for the majority of my work as opposed to being in the studio on a daily basis. Along with those, staying on top of the latest health research, striving for continuous improvements, and marketing make running a small business challenging in ways I couldn’t have imagined.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
What really sets my business apart is that I don’t try to fit people into a system; I build the system around the person.
Everything I do is customized and grounded in how someone actually moves, lives, and feels. My background in yoga, Pilates, strength training, and functional movement lets me blend different approaches so clients aren’t just working harder, they’re moving better. I also focus a lot on sustainability. I’m not interested in quick fixes or extreme programs. I want people to feel confident, capable, and supported long-term. Fitness should add to your life, not take it over. At the core of my work is the belief that fitness doesn’t have one shape. My job is to meet people where they are and help them build something that feels possible, not punishing.
Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
My family had a house on Lake Cumberland in Kentucky. We spent lots of time there in the summer and some of my favorite memories are spending all day outdoors boating, fishing, hunting, and making food around the campfire.
