Life & Work with Makenna Tuttle

Today we’d like to introduce you to Makenna Tuttle.

Hi Makenna, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
I have always had an interest in and gravitated towards cameras and movies. When I was young, every Saturday night my dad and I would watch a new movie together, which helped expose me to that world early on. By the time I got to high school, I was trying to figure out what to do next. So, I took some classes at my local community college and landed in an English class. For our final project we could either do a 15-minute presentation or make a video. Let’s just say, I’m not much of a public speaker. But I really enjoyed the whole process of planning and executing it. Then I started looking into doing Film as a career, so I decided to take a couple basic level film classes at the community college, and the rest is history!

But now that I have Graduated with my Film Degree from Ohio University, I plan to continue working as Producer on a couple projects for a bit. I really see myself working in preproduction, and feel that is where I thrive best. I hope to continue this path of producing, and helping to tell stories.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has definitely not been an easy road. For one, I feel people with disabilities aren’t always listened to or taken seriously in society in general- let alone the film industry. I have definitely had to prove myself to others that I am capable of taking on responsibilities, just as much as anyone else. But it has allowed me to build confidence, and see myself as valuable and worthy of artist opportunities in this industry.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am mostly working in Producer roles on short films at the moment. I love working with directors that have important stories to tell, and helping to bring their creative visions to life!

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
I grew up on a farm! It was just a family-owned one, but I was constantly surrounded by various farm animals growing up, which kept things entertaining!
