Life & Work with Jevon Terance

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jevon Terance.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I am an international fashion designer with my home base in Lorain, OH. Founded in the year 2007, my fashion line, Jevon Terance, grew from a passionate hobby to a recognizable brand. I became interested in designing at a young age due to my passion for sneakers since kindergarten. My love for design continued to expand turning into designing and creating clothes for men and women using designs inspired by the city of Lorain, travel, and sneaker inspiration. The main focus of the Fashion Line is to inspire people to work at and wear what makes them happy. Fashion-wise, the line is mainly focused on everyday wear, but high fashion runway pieces are also a growing interest. I’ve showcased my collections in Paris, New York, and LA fashion weeks. I enjoy working with celebrity and local clients. I work within the community for local efforts, conducts student programming, and mentors fashion students. Currently, I am preparing my next collection and developing marketing plans for that launch.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
At the start of my career, I didn’t have the funding to go to fashion school. It was difficult to get the brand off the ground, I had to work many different jobs to save in order to purchase fabric to make clothes. When we opened in 2012, we had to work with what we had to have stock in the store and figure out how to get to look we wanted in the store, on a very limited budget. Since my first store was a pop-up shop opportunity during the holiday months, I hadn’t been planning to open as quickly as I did. In business, I want to reach the market but there is a challenge at times with staying true to myself as a designer and making what I want, versus designing what the market wants.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I design women’s and men’s clothing, focusing on everyday wear. My design process includes sketch to making the final garments. I’m known for making quality, cool clothing. I’m most proud of having a boutique in the city of Lorain and being able to provide a platform for people to express themselves through my fashions. I have an eye for quality fabrics, I design my own fabrics and take sneaker designs and inspirations from the city and my travel to develop designs.

What matters most to you? Why?
Family is a big deal to me which is why I choose to stay located in Lorain. I enjoy having a boutique in my hometown and being able to travel for different opportunities.
