Life & Work with Jackie Burtch of Columbus

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jackie Burtch

Hi Jackie, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Burtch Designs was born at a pivotal moment in my life—a time when I was stepping into motherhood and searching for more creative freedom in my career. In 2019, I found myself at a crossroads. I was working part-time as a designer while preparing to welcome my first child, and I had a choice to make: either accept a full-time corporate role or take the leap into my own venture. Trusting my gut, I chose the latter. I turned down the corporate path, ramped up my freelance work, and welcomed my first baby boy.

That decision allowed me to be present as a mom while building something that truly aligned with my passions. What started as a flexible side gig quickly gained momentum, and I discovered how much I loved collaborating with small businesses, fellow entrepreneurs, and other moms like me. It wasn’t just about design—it was about connecting with people, helping them build something meaningful, and creating a brand that felt authentic to their vision.

At Burtch Designs, my mission is to help female entrepreneurs elevate their brands and websites in a way that feels true to who they are. I don’t just work on projects; I partner with my clients, understanding that their business is personal to them—just like mine is to me. When you become a client, you’re not just getting a designer—you’re getting a lifelong cheerleader who’s just as invested in your success as you are.

The core values that guide me—creativity, authenticity, reliability, collaboration, and growth—are at the heart of every project. I approach each brand and website design with these in mind, ensuring that everything I create not only looks beautiful but also serves as a strategic tool for growth. I want my clients to feel that their brand reflects the heart and soul of their business and that it works for them long-term.

Today, Burtch Designs has grown into a go-to resource for female entrepreneurs and small business owners looking to scale their businesses through smart, strategic design. I’m grateful every day for the opportunity to connect with women who are balancing their dreams with the demands of family and business, just like I am. Having built Burtch Designs while raising a family, I understand the unique challenges my clients face, and I’m dedicated to helping them achieve their goals without sacrificing their values.

At the end of the day, I believe you don’t have to choose between being a present mom and building a successful business. Finding harmony between the two is what Burtch Designs is all about. As I continue to grow my business, my commitment remains the same: to help my clients grow, evolve, and succeed in their journeys, just as I have in mine.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Oh gosh, yes! Starting my business while becoming a new mom was a huge challenge. Juggling the demands of a newborn with the pressures of building a brand meant that I often felt pulled in opposite directions. It’s been a continuous balancing act, learning how to be present for my family while also giving my clients the creative energy they deserve. In the early days, I said “yes” to everything—every project, every request, every opportunity—because I wanted to grow my business. But without boundaries, burnout was inevitable. Learning to say “no,” set clear expectations with clients, and create space for myself has been a key part of keeping Burtch Designs sustainable.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I help female entrepreneurs a few years into business, ditch their DIY brand for a custom logo and Squarespace website. I alleviate the stress of crafting your dream brand and collaborate closely with my clients to create an authentic vision that brings them joy, confidently grows their business, and helps them shine in their industry.

What were you like growing up?
From crafting, dancing or helping my mom with interior design decisions I was always into something creative. Being a part of a competitive dance team for six years, was a large part of building the foundation of hard work, being a team player and building confidence!
