Life & Work with Django Kroner of Red River George, KY

Today we’d like to introduce you to Django Kroner.

Hi django, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
When I was 19 I moved to the gorge for the rock climbing. I was working for a timber frame cabin builder and living on his land. I asked if I could build a treehouse to live in and he said yes. Over the year I combined my rigging skills from climbing and my carpentry skills from work to build a treehouse that was 45 ft up between two trees. I lived there for three years and loved sharing the experience with friends. I wanted to share it more so I decided I had to build more.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not. Any type of experimental architecture is challenging. The terrain, the engineering and the build are challenging. Finding employees who have the unique combination of skills can be hard too. We have battled, triumphed, and learned something with each build. There has been a lot of mistakes and head scratching that got us to where we are now.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
People look at our builds and ask, “How did you get that up there?” We have been pushing the limits by building in very unique locations. In 2020 we shifted from the tree tops to the cliffside and started building houses hanging from rock. The view is amazing. This is something we hadn’t seen anyone doing yet. We wanted to be innovative and share something new with the community.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I have always felt lucky and always been grateful for my good fortune. But I think luck is about constantly looking for opportunities and then just being at the right place at the right time. We have had plenty of wins and losses but if you are always pushing some type of success will happen eventually.
