Today we’d like to introduce you to Brianna Heisler.
Hi Brianna, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
The story of my art comes from a place of wanting to put joy out to the world. I have experienced many highs and lows in life that inspire me. That show beauty can come from tragedy. I have several medical conditions that can slow me down physically. Embroidery is a great distraction. I love getting into the tiny details of a piece. It’s actually hard for me to let them go for sale because I love them so much! Knowing they are going to maybe put a smile on someone’s face helps though. I started out with my Etsy shop in 2020 during the pandemic lockdown. I found by trial and error that I can create my own embroidery patterns. It was an outlet for the outside stressors. I love using bright colors that blend beautifully. There is one rule I stick with though; I only produce art when I’m in a positive state of mind. For me, I produce the best art this way. Maybe weird, but so am I. Proudly weird that is.
After doing embroidery for a while, I then started reading about candle making. I only use natural essential oils and soy wax. I add crystals and dried flowers to some of them for a little extra intention. My candles are made to create a mood. Some have a comfy warmth of cinnamon, and others are bright and cleansing with citrus scents.
If you stop by my Etsy shop, Instagram, website, or YouTube, you will also see I have options for Oracle Card Readings. These are a creative way for me to share my spiritual side. I take time to connect with God every morning in meditation. I then start creating.
I live with my husband and two Cane Corsos puppies in Cleveland, Ohio.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
In 2008 I was hit head-on in a motor vehicle accident. I now have a chronic pain condition called Complex Regional Pain Syndrome. The pain can be crushing. So I have plenty of time to sit and create. I also need to manage (like so many of us) PTSD, Anxiety, and ADHD. I really feel my diagnosis blend together and help me create. I want people who also struggle with mental health to know they’re not alone. Even if that means brightening their day with one of my videos on YouTube. If I make even one person feel inspired to continue, I will consider myself successful.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
What sets my work apart from others is that it all comes from my imagination. Most of the embroidery work I do can take me a month to make. I get down into the small details and want every stitch to shine. All of the patterns are my creations. I also love to incorporate beading and buttons in my designs. They are bright, bold, and sometimes a little daring. I have memory problems from my accident and actually forgot I had this skill. It was out of a need to escape from a locked-down world that I picked it back up. My grandmother taught me when I was a child. Embroidery is my specialty, but I think I am more known for my YouTube page now. These are my fun Oracle Card shorts. TikTok is where I have created a couple videos of my embroidery.
What were you like growing up?
Growing up I was the shy kid. Always staring out the classroom window. There was so much to do outside. Definitely awkward and out there. I escaped into my imagination. I loved being in band where I played the trombone. If I wasn’t at school, I was outside riding bikes with the neighborhood kids.
