Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrew Phillips Jr.
Hi Andrew, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I knew I wanted to be a personal trainer growing up because my mentor Carlton Slade was my personal trainer. He helped me build strength and confidence, which contributed to my success as an athlete. I began personal training at age 18 and quickly found an internship that helped me develop as a trainer and leader. I became a strength and conditions coach under the guidance of Jordan Bunch and BLOC Ministries in Cincinnati where he helped to get me certified and pushed me to grow. Eventually I became the head strength and conditioning coach under the director Marybeth Knight who gave me great insight and knowledge of what it really means to be a leader. After I graduated Xavier University I came back home to Cleveland,Ohio and have since been working at Sculpt Fitness under Chad Maleski gaining clients and helping them lose weight and regain confidence.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Along the road I have lost family members, which had affected my academic career. I had broke my hand and torn my ACL back to back which caused me to stay in school a little longer than I would have liked.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a personal trainer and I specialize in strength and conditioning training. What I am known for and what separate me from others is the care for each individual client I provide. I believe that personal training is a great way to help somebody grow mentally, spiritually, and of course physically. Anybody can write a great workout but not everyone can help somebody build confidence in themselves or even push past the limits they set on themselves.
Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
I learned that you shouldn’t take a single moment for granted. I myself sometimes get caught in the day to day cycle but it’s important to take time and spend it with your family or even treat yourself. Nothing is promised and relationships are important so value them.
