Life & Work with Andrea Washburn of Columbus and surrounding areas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrea Washburn.

Hi Andrea , we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Absolutely, I’d be honored to share my story!

Honestly, I didn’t wake up one day and say, “I’m going to start an event planning empire.” Life led me here , one tear, one celebration, one moment at a time. Andrea Washburn Events & Decor was born out of my own need for joy during a season of deep loss. I had just lost my two nephews an unimaginable pain , and in the midst of my grief, I found peace and healing in celebrating others. Whether it was birthdays, holiday decorations, weddings, or baby showers, helping others create moments of happiness started to fill a space in me that felt broken.

With my faith as my foundation and my family by my side, I started small it was just me, a vision, and prayer. I had no blueprint, for success, only a deep sense of calling. Over time impressed clients spread the word, and the business grew.

Today, I stand as the proud Owner of a 5-star rated business with an A+ rating from the BBB. But more than that, I’m a mother, a wife, a dreamer, and a woman determined to leave a legacy rooted in love, service, and celebration. That’s how I got here, and the journey’s just getting started.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has NOT been a smooth ride, there were certainly many challenges, particularly in the early stages but every rough patch shaped me and this business into what it is today. One of the biggest struggles was starting with little to no resources, no team, no fancy showroom, just me, some tables, a glue gun, and a dream. I had to wear all the hats: planner, decorator, accountant, delivery driver, and sometimes even therapist (because planning events can be very emotional! ).

There were times when bookings were slow, and I questioned if I was truly on the right path. Losing my nephews added a layer of grief that I carried into my work, but it also gave me a deeper sense of purpose and drive that kept me going.

And let’s not forget the learning curves, contracts, pricing, business taxes ! I had to learn a lot the hard way. But through it all my faith, my family, and my unshakable passion kept me going.

So no, it hasn’t been smooth, but every detour and delay has only made the destination sweeter. Every challenge along the way became an opportunity to learn and grow. “ It was never a loss always a lesson learned!”

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’ve always said that event planning is about so much more than pretty decorations, it’s about people and their stories. I plan and design everything from dreamy weddings and whimsical baby showers to polished corporate galas and even over-the-top luxury décor setups. My signature style has a flair for the elegant and over-the-top glam (I do love a bit of sparkle !), but what truly defines my work is versatility and personalization: every celebration is tailored to reflect my client’s unique vision, personality, and the heart of what they’re celebrating. I’m passionate about weaving in personal touches at every turn whether it’s incorporating a couple’s love story into their wedding theme or capturing a new mom’s dreams for her baby shower , because I want each event to feel just like them. Honestly, nothing makes me happier than seeing my clients’ faces light up when they walk into their event; that emotional connection and shared joy is what I’m most proud of and why I pour my heart into every detail. I think what sets me apart is my obsessive attention to detail and the genuine care I give to each event. I approach every project like it’s for my own family, going above and beyond to make sure everything is just right and my clients feel taken care of. At the end of the day, I’m not just creating pretty parties, I’m crafting memories and experiences. My team and I are here to serve, celebrate, and turn your dreams into reality, and I truly believe that every celebration can be a masterpiece filled with warmth, joy, and a whole lot of love.

What makes you happy?
Seeing people smile. Period. There is something so deeply fulfilling about watching someone walk into a space I’ve designed and seeing their face light up with pure joy and emotion.

But beyond the events, what truly fills my heart is knowing I played a part in creating a moment they’ll never forget. I’m happiest when I’m serving others, making them feel seen, celebrated, and cared for. That’s my why. I believe joy is contagious, and if I can bring a little more of it into someone’s life, even for just one day I know I’ve walked in my purpose. That’s what makes me happy, every single time.
