Today we’d like to introduce you to Amber King.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I guess I can say that my story leading up to what is now Queenz Krumblez started in 1986. That was the year my brother was born; I was two years old and didn’t attach well to others outside of my mom. You would think that would be a problem for someone that was about to deliver a baby, and that’s when my Aunt Rhonda (who traveled from Bluefield, WV), introduced me to my first taste of sugar… Her famous lemon cake! I would say my obsession for sugar has been in effect since then lol.
Fast forward some years, my great aunt Louise had a beautiful country kitchen. When you walked into her kitchen, you can smell butter and sugar at any time a day. She was the first one who showed me how to bake.
I am the family resident Baker that prides herself on old fashion, taste like your grandmama-made-it type baking. QK came about from baking for others for years. Though my mom could cook, she could not bake lol. Having a sweet tooth and also a father who loves a good cake I was bound to have my own baking business one day. Well on one restless night in 2012 I had a dream that I was working and operating in my own bakery. 10 years later, I’m doing this full-time from home while shopping for a permanent location. Being born and raised in Columbus, Ohio, and a graduate of Columbus City Schools I wouldn’t dream of opening anywhere else.
Queenz Krumblez will always stand by quality ingredients, TLC, and LOVE!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
This journey has definitely been more like the brick roads of German Village than those of the smooth suburban streets.
Being a single mom, I worked full-time at a child welfare agency for 15 years while building my brand. Rearing two children post-divorce and having financial struggles made me quit twice.
Thank goodness I’m a third times a charm-type woman lol. Baking has always been there for me, even through the tough times. It is not just a thing or a business opportunity… baking has been my forever muse!
New challenges have been finding an affordable location with proper parking and foot traffic, but trust and BELIEVE you will see QK soon enough!
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m home Baker, sugar provider, taste but awakener.
If I were to say what I specialize in it would definitely be cupcakes. However, if you were to ask my customers, they would say everything lol. One thing that sends them screaming are my oatmeal raisin cookies. When my father was alive, I was most proud of my yellow butter cake with chocolate buttercream. My top-selling cupcakes are my Honeycrisp apple crown cupcakes… They are life-changing.
The things that sets Queenz Krumblez apart from others is innumerable. However, to isolate one thing would be purely love. We care so deeply for our customers we put love into everything we do!
How do you define success?
I’ve always felt like the definition of success is an internal feeling. It’s the feeling that beyond a shadow of a doubt you have achieved and believed enough in yourself to reach every level you’ve set before you. I do not believe success is a monetary notation but a place that resides within.
