Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Jacob Tegtman of Youngstown

We recently had the chance to connect with Jacob Tegtman and have shared our conversation below.

Jacob, a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: What is a normal day like for you right now?
Usually, my mornings begin with meditation, a quick workout, and some kind of introspection with breakfast. I usually work on sales, removing obstacles for my team in the mornings, and some coaching as-needed. Afternoons are more passion projects, and then staying engaged/ available if my team needs anything from me. I find that so long as people have clear expectations, feel appreciated/ feel that their work is meaningful, and sense that they have the support needed to achieve their goals, things generally go pretty well.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Jacob Tegtman, owner of Third Loft Marketing. We specialize in conversion rate optimization (CRO) and AI search optimization. It’s great having views, impressions, and website traffic. But for me, it’s all about sales. How many people who see you are actually buying from you? That’s what we do – come in and optimize websites, ads, funnels, lead magnets, and your offer until money starts coming in. No one wants to hire a marketing company, after all. People want to hire someone who will make them more money.

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
My wife has had a larger impact on me than anyone else – maybe even more so than my parents. And I love my parents haha. But my wife has helped me truly develop into a more confident version of myself. She’s encouraged me to not only chase my goals, but also achieve my dreams – those things that I thought maybe would only be for “someday,” or passion projects that were maybe not “realistic,” in my head. But I’ve learned that every time I listen to her, my life gets better. And the longer we’re together, the more my life gets better. She sees me in ways I haven’t able to see myself, and helps me see life through a whole new amazing perspective.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Absolutely. Even numerous times. During covid, I sincerely considered closing down Third Loft. There was also some sketchy months in years following. But it seemed like every time I thought about giving up, I’d just push through for another few months. And somehow, that decision to keep going was rewarded in what seemed like really disproportionate ways. It was almost as if just by not giving up, the universe gave me big boosts in those lowest times, until I learned to trust that this path was “supposed to be.” Or, at least, it’s supposed to be, so long as I choose it. Looking back, I’m incredibly grateful to myself for choosing to move forward, despite how things looked in those tough times. It’s hard to imagine life being better than it is today, if I gave up my dreams and settled for something less.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Is the public version of you the real you?
It really is, yes. Maybe it’s a virgo thing. But I have a hard time not just “being myself.” Sometimes, maybe too much so haha? I try to keep myself toned down a bit when meeting new clients, etc. But I also think that having only one “version of myself,” sometimes unpolished and overly real, comes with its own charm. As AI takes over more things in life, and people become increasingly disillusioned with corporations, the “human element” is becoming more valuable. People want real experiences, with real people. At least, that’s what I like to believe.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: When do you feel most at peace?
Rather than seeking peace, in my experience, life is best lived from an emanating position of peace. That is, I develop an inner feeling of bliss each morning. That may sound like new-age bs. But imagine how it feels to work when you’re stressed. And then imagine it when you’ve had the best day of your life. Studies show that performance increases, for your mind and body, when you’re at peace. So, rather than taking vacations to get away, and destress, I just cultivate peacefulness. Once I’m at peace, I create. When not at peace, I go get into a blissful state, and then create. By doing life this way, I find that I enjoy my life, and things “go my way” a very large percentage of the time.
