Inspiring Conversations with Wendy Milligan of Keller Williams Greater Metropolitan

Today we’d like to introduce you to Wendy Milligan.

Hi Wendy, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Well since your publication is aptly named Voyage Ohio, it might be relevant to indicate that I’m not originally from Ohio, but from a small town in Northern Ontario Canada called Timmins. I first moved to Cleveland to pursue my Master’s degree and after falling in love with the area, spent the bulk of my career working here as a Speech Language Pathologist.

Over time, my natural love for architecture, construction and home design eventually propelled me into the wonderful world of real estate! Since becoming a real estate agent, I have gained significant fulfillment with remaining of service to people during one of the most important transitions of their lives. Buying and selling property can be particularly stressful and I aim to empower my clients with knowledge while helping them feel comfortable during every step of the process.

I think the biggest benefit of not being born and raised in Cleveland would be that no part of this region is off limits to me. Over the years, having taken residence on the West side, East side and now living close to the Downtown area has provided me with a unique perspective about every aspect of this wonderful city. My extensive knowledge regarding various local cities’ taxation rates, school systems, colleges, hospital networks and prominent companies has been beneficial to my clients who are looking to relocate here, as well as to help serve those who are fortunate to be living here already. I am also acquainted with Cleveland’s robust art culture, vibrant restaurant/nightlife scene and the ongoing miles of scenic Metroparks which include extensively developed cycling trails. In my opinion, Cleveland’s best asset is Lake Erie and I am well familiarized with waterfront living and the destinations that abound on the lake from East to West.

Additionally, as an avid traveler, my ultimate goal is to continually extend my professional reach within the global market. I have already begun building a trustworthy real estate network in various countries, ensuring my clients remain supported wherever they are in the world.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
While I have always loved helping friends and family make their home fit their lives; for many years this was just a hobby. During the pandemic, I think many of us had a chance to reflect deeply upon what was truly important. When Keller Williams Greater Metropolitan approached me again, I set aside my apprehensions about making a career change and decided to pursue my dream.

That first step was daunting, but once I started working toward completing the coursework and preparing for the exams, the vivid prospect of changing the course of my future became exhilarating. I have a much deeper appreciation for anyone who’s become certified as a real estate agent.

By the way, becoming a real estate agent entails much more than putting on a blazer and showing houses. The National and State exams cover every aspect of buying and selling properties from the legal implications, the interpretation of contracts, the appraisal process, building techniques, agency relationships, and lots of math! With working full time and studying, it was only with my family’s support that I was able to get through it all. My family was and continues to be a huge part of my success. To my husband Kevin and son Zach, I thank you!

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
I’m a firm believer that success is only worth attaining if it’s been achieved with integrity. I pride myself on my reputation and am known as a hard worker, an attentive listener, and a loyal advocate to my clients. Always maintaining a positive outlook helps to provide insight during challenging situations. Learning to bounce back from setbacks and persevering has also been critically helpful for my real estate business. In this market, that’s a must! Worthwhile effort should also be put into healthy relationships in order to evolve both personally and professionally. I am extremely grateful for the supportive network I’ve developed over the years. And lastly, taking risks has often propelled me far beyond my comfort zone, but has also opened up unexpected opportunities which have made this journey far more interesting!
