Inspiring Conversations with Terese McGroarty of FranNet of Northern Ohio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Terese McGroarty.

Hi Terese, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My husband and I were just 21 when we bought our first franchise, a Shell Automotive Repair Center. What started as one location quickly grew to three, and we spent about 15 years building and operating those businesses while raising a family. After selling the Shell locations, we purchased a Goodyear Automotive Repair facility and built it from the ground up. It was another successful chapter, and when a buyer approached us, we decided it was the right time to sell and step back from ownership.

I didn’t plan to go back into the franchise world until a friend called and asked if I’d be interested in FranNet. That conversation changed everything. Today, I love what I do. I help professionals explore franchise ownership with clarity and confidence. Just as importantly, I help people recognize when business ownership is not the right fit. My goal is to guide people to informed decisions that align with their goals, values, and lifestyle, whether that leads to ownership or a different path.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Has it been a smooth road? Absolutely not. Business ownership is never smooth—and that’s part of the journey. I love the flexibility, freedom, and income that come with owning a business, but there are real challenges. Leads aren’t always consistent, deals don’t always close, and sometimes you think someone is buying and they don’t. That can be discouraging.

Technology and competition have also changed dramatically over the years, which means you’re constantly adapting. I’ve learned that to be a successful business owner, you have to be willing to learn, grow, and evolve. That’s what keeps it exciting—there’s always something new, and there’s always an opportunity to get better.

As you know, we’re big fans of FranNet of Northern Ohio. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
I’m a franchise consultant with FranNet of Northern Ohio, and I help professionals explore business ownership with clarity and confidence. I act as a guide and educator, helping clients understand their goals, financial picture, and lifestyle priorities, then matching them with franchise opportunities that fit—or helping them decide that ownership isn’t the right path.

What sets me apart is my background as a multi-unit franchise owner. I’ve lived the realities of ownership, which allows me to bring honesty, empathy, and practical insight to every client conversation. I’m most proud of the trust I’ve built and the number of people I’ve helped make informed, confident decisions about their future.

My mission is simple: business ownership should be a learning journey, not a pressure-filled sales process. I want readers to know that my brand is built on integrity, education, and helping people create a path that aligns with their values, goals, and desired lifestyle.

What makes you happy?
Many things make me happy, but my faith is at the center of it all. I love the Lord, I trust Him, and through that trust I’m continually growing, learning to be more patient, more grateful, and more present each day.

My family brings me so much joy. My husband and I have been married for nearly 48 years, and we have five children and one grandchild. Watching our family grow and staying connected through all the seasons of life is a deep blessing. We also have an amazing German Shepherd, Lana, who keeps us active. My husband and I love going for walks and hikes with her.

And finally, my work truly makes me happy. I get to be part matchmaker, part educator, and part encourager, helping people explore what’s possible for their future. Seeing someone gain clarity and confidence about their next chapter is incredibly fulfilling for me.
