Inspiring Conversations with Stephenie Boys of Steph Jordan Photography

Today we’d like to introduce you to Stephenie Boys.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I never set out to be a photographer—it all started 13 years ago when I was making jewelry and needed some pretty pictures to help sell it. Funny enough, people fell in love with the photos more than the jewelry and started asking if I could photograph their kids! One thing led to another, and before I knew it, I had found my true passion. I’m completely self-taught, and now I get to do what I love full-time—capturing joyful moments for high school seniors, families, athletes, and even Santa Claus’s from all over the country! My work has even been featured in People magazine. I’m also a proud member of PPA, and for the past three years, I’ve been honored to be nominated for CBUS Top Best—making the top three each time and even taking home the win one year! Five years ago I took the leap and opened an in home studio and now specialize in natural and studio lighting sessions! I feel so lucky and grateful every day to do what I love!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Like many small business owners, the road hasn’t always been easy. The photography world is incredibly saturated, and it can be tough to stand out—especially while juggling being a mom and teaching myself everything from scratch. There were plenty of late nights, trial and error, and moments of doubt along the way. Finding time to grow my skills while raising a family wasn’t always graceful, but I was determined to keep learning, improving, and showing up for the people who believed in me. Every challenge pushed me to become better—not just as a photographer, but as a business owner and a mom.

We’ve been impressed with Steph Jordan Photography, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I specialize in capturing real, meaningful moments—whether it’s a high school senior beaming with excitement for the future, a family laughing together, an athlete in their element, or a magical moment with Santa. What truly sets my work apart is my passion for storytelling through images. I want every session to feel personal and every photo to reflect the heart behind it. I’m proud to be known for top-notch customer service, a smooth and friendly experience, beautiful professional-quality images, and a reasonable turnaround time—because I know how special these memories are. At the core of my brand is a love for people, connection, and creating images that families will treasure for generations. My motto is to make the customer feel as stress free as possible and connect with their vision and make it come to life!

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
One of the biggest risks in running my business has definitely been financial. Photography isn’t just clicking a button—it’s an investment. From high-quality equipment, insurance, and tax preparation to props, backdrops, vendor shows, and travel expenses, every decision comes with a cost. It can be a little scary to spend before you earn, especially when you’re building from the ground up. But I’ve learned that with patience, planning, and passion, those risks have always paid off. Every investment I’ve made has helped me grow, serve my clients better, and take my business to new places—literally and creatively!
