Inspiring Conversations with Paige Genova of Vital Pelvic Health and Wellness

Today we’d like to introduce you to Paige Genova.

Paige, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’m a wife, and mother of two young kids, ages 5 and 7, and a passionate occupational therapist. I’ve been practicing in the Youngstown region for 11 years, starting my career at St. Elizabeth’s Downtown Youngstown where I specialized in ICU care and co-created the ICU Early Mobility program. About 7 years ago, I transitioned into pelvic health, and I’ve never looked back!

My journey into pelvic health began with a recognition that my community was lacking the kind of comprehensive, specialized care that people struggling with pelvic floor dysfunction truly deserve. As an OT, I’ve always been drawn to helping underserved populations, and I couldn’t ignore the need for better pelvic healthcare in our region.

What really got me started was my personal drive to make a difference. There was no multi-clinician practice in the region focused solely on pelvic floor dysfunction, and so many men and women were forced to drive to cleveland to get any answers and care. I was determined to fill that gap and create a world class healthcare facility right here in Youngstown! With zero formal business training, a 2-year-old and a 4-year-old in tow, I took the leap and opened Vital Pelvic Health and Wellness in 2022. It wasn’t easy, but over time, we’ve grown to be the #1-rated pelvic health clinic in Eastern Ohio and Western Pennsylvania.

The thing that has pushed me forward the most, is seeing the difference we make in our patients’ lives. Every patient who walks through our door and finishes their care with lasting relief from symptoms, or the ones who cry with relief because they finally found a provider who understands their struggles—that’s what drives me. Those moments, along with the unwavering support from my family, have been everything.

I couldn’t have gotten here without the incredible team I’ve built. I’m so grateful for my amazing administrative director, Kim Boccia, who was my first hire about eight months after opening the clinic. She’s been a lifeline for both the growth of the clinic and my own sanity!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I think anyone who has started their own business will tell you that the journey is full of ups and downs! I didn’t have formal business training, so a lot of it was trial and error—figuring out finances, building a business structure, and navigating the logistics of running a clinic while also being a mom. There were plenty of late nights and stressful moments, especially in the beginning.

On top of that, my husband works as a power lineman, which means his job is incredibly unpredictable. There were times when both of us were juggling our demanding careers and trying to figure out how to make it all work. I was never in the clinic full-time, and always managed to balance home life, too—being home with my kids 2-3 days a week while still building the business. It wasn’t (and still isn’t!) easy, but it forced me to learn how to be efficient and prioritize what truly mattered.

But, looking back, each of those struggles has shaped where I am today. I’ve learned so much along the way, and those tough moments have made the successes even more meaningful.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Vital Pelvic Health and Wellness is the region’s first and only multi-clinician clinic dedicated exclusively to pelvic health, and I’m incredibly proud of the work we do. As a mother of two young children and an occupational therapist, I saw a huge gap in comprehensive pelvic healthcare in our community. So, I took the leap and opened the clinic with a mission to provide a level of care that had been missing. Since opening, we’ve become the #1-rated pelvic health clinic in Eastern Ohio and Western Pennsylvania, and we’ve had the privilege of helping hundreds of patients heal and reclaim their lives.

What sets us apart is our holistic, evidence-based approach, which recognizes the mind-body connection and addresses the neuropsychology of chronic conditions. I’m the only pelvic health occupational therapist in the U.S. certified in Pain Reprocessing Therapy, and I’ve developed a method I call “Pelvicology.” This approach focuses not only on the physical aspects of pelvic floor dysfunction but also on the psychological factors that contribute to chronic pain and dysfunction. We specialize in conditions like chronic pelvic pain, bowel and bladder dysfunction, infertility, as well as all pre and post natal concern though our innovative prenatal rehab and labor prep program.

We’re also proud to have created a new standard of care in pelvic health. We don’t do cookie-cutter therapy or group sessions—our private treatment rooms are designed for one-on-one care, ensuring each patient gets the personalized attention they deserve. Our approach is truly pioneering, and we’ve built a reputation for providing world-class care. Patients come to us for our unique approach from across the U.S., the UK, and Australia for virtual sessions, and we’re also honored to partner with four regional universities, teaching the next generation of pelvic health specialists.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
I believe the quality that has been most important to my success is the grit I’ve carried with me from being born and raised in the Youngstown region. There’s something about growing up here that instills a certain resilience and determination. I’ve always felt a deep passion for helping underserved populations, and that drive has kept me moving forward, even through tough times.

Another characteristic that’s been key for me is decisiveness. I’ve learned to trust my instincts, which allows me to take the leap without overthinking. When I think about the people I’m helping—those who don’t have access to comprehensive, specialized care—I know that my decisions matter. And that confidence in my mission helps propel me forward.
