Inspiring Conversations with Melina Millerleile of Cycle Fly

Today we’d like to introduce you to Melina Millerleile.

Hi Melina, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I fell in love with indoor cycling right before I got married back in 2017-2018. I started off going once a week to then five times a week. At the time I was working in the corporate dentistry world and felt like something was missing in my life. I knew that I didn’t want to stay there and that I wanted to become my own boss & own my own business.

After creating a mock business plan on opening a dental office with a friend, I quickly realized that I didn’t want to open a business on something I wasn’t completely passionate about and at the time, the only thing I truly cared about for me was how I felt during a cycling class. The fact that I grew up and never felt empowered, strong, into sports or fitness, this lifestyle took a hold of me and made me feel all of those things and more. I made friends, I felt strong, I wanted others to feel the same. So fast forward to 2021, I opened Cycle Fly. I went down the avenue of dark room rhythmic based cycling because numbers and metrics were never something I cared about. I only cared about feeling good and getting to move my body while having fun with it.

Over the last 4-5 years, we have grown so much. We’ve won best of Cleveland in four categories this year and have won many things in the past. We’ve created such a welcoming, fun, strong community of people. We’ve create a safe space for people to work out. That’s all I’ve ever wanted.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has and hasn’t. We opened right before Covid took over. We signed our lease before the outbreak happened and held off on opening the doors for 10 months. When we opened the doors, I was nervous. I didn’t know what to expect, and it was not what I had in my plan. As you know during that time, we had to open with precautions, as the health of our staff and our riders was our number one priority. Getting people through the doors was not easy, but as time went on we still pushed through and opened during one of the hardest times and I’m grateful that we made it through. Over the years, building our community has been easy though. Everyone has been so helpful and consistent. You learn over time what’s important to your business and what you have to do to protect it.

We’ve been impressed with Cycle Fly, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We are a dark room, rhythmic indoor cycling studio located in the heart of downtown Lakewood, OH. Our classes are 45 minutes long and we work the full body. In every class you can expect intense cardio, resistence, cardio weights and a moment of reflection for the mind. What sets us apart from other studios is our type of riding as we don’t use any numbers or metrics and the fact that we celebrate our riders and team. We celebrate every milestone from 3 classes to 1000 classes. We’ve got each others backs. I am proud of the space we’ve create, my team for growing a long side me, our riders for being consistent and showing up even when time gets tough. I am proud of the community we’ve built. I want readers to know that you can show up anyway you want to, there is no judgement. I want readers to try something new as you never know what you can fall in love with. I want them to not get overwhelmed and take class at their own pace. We offer a new rider special drop in rate at $10 for one class, 3 classes for $30.00 or a 2 week unlimited starter membership for $50.00.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
Consistency, willing to try anything once, willing to fail and continue to push forward in finding other avenues to make whatever you want to happen, happen. We didn’t get where we are today without that. I’ve been told no, I’ve been told I couldn’t do something or create something or to change my views and I stayed consistent on what I wanted to accomplish. My team is the same way. Our culture within Cycle Fly is about never giving up and always being in control of what you want. Knowing that it’s not easy, but it’s worth it.
