Hi Kara & Kree, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
Raen Coffee has been years in the making. As sisters and best friends, we first started entertaining the idea of a small business back in 2019. While chatting over a cup of coffee, that’s when it clicked! Coffee has always been part of our lives. From childhood memories of our mom’s morning coffee aroma filling the house to coffee dates we now go on together, coffee has become a staple in our daily routines. It is more than a pick-me-up. It truly brings people together. We want everyone to be able to enjoy a specialty cup of coffee from the comfort of their own home or on the go without the bulky equipment and excess waste. A steepable coffee bag is the perfect solution. After lots of research and planning, we launched Raen Coffee April 7th, 2022, as an e-commerce coffee shop selling our steepable Ominous Blend dark roast coffee and accessories. Raen Coffee’s single-serve steepable bags allow you to enjoy a rich decadent cup of coffee in pretty much any scenario you can think of. 

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
We reached out to several coffee roaster and packaging companies before we found one that we could work with. Shortly after brainstorming our business idea the pandemic hit. This slowed down the process of our dream becoming a reality. Our planning was paused as we entered an economic climate of uncertainty. However, we stayed persistent and still met weekly to discuss our business plan. During our meetings we added to our vision board, discussed logo design, and additional accessories we wanted to offer customers to stay motivated and focused. 

We’ve been impressed with Raen Coffee, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Is an e-commerce coffee company founded by women, ran by sisters. We sell our steepable dark roast coffee that you can enjoy anywhere by simply adding hot water. Our steepbale coffee bags incorporate guilt-free packaging that is nitro sealed for optimum freshness and taste. Each pack and bag is compostable (in commercial facilities only). Raen Coffee makes for the perfect simplified, sustainable coffee experience with no compromise on taste or quality. We are most proud of starting a company that we truly believe in and sharing a quality product that anyone can enjoy. From the brands aesthetic down to the logo and pack design we want readers to know we took a lot of time in planning every single detail of our brand. Even the packaging and shipping presentation was well thought-out. We currently offer our steepable Ominous blend in counts of 5, 15, and 25 as well as in bundles with our various coffee accessories and wholesale options. 

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
Coffee isn’t going anywhere. We can definitely see our industry expanding well into the future. For Raen Coffee specifically, we can see our brand offering additional roasts and blends as well as more accessories. Our goal is to eventually be able to open a coffee shop. Creating a space that matches our aesthetic for people to meet, relax, work, and enjoy Raen Coffee.
