Inspiring Conversations with Billy Swanzer of The Swanzer Agency

Today we’d like to introduce you to Billy Swanzer.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My dad has been a Realtor/Broker for 45+ years, so I was always around the industry. When I was younger, I didn’t have a passion for real estate, so I got my Bachelor’s Degree in business administration (focus on Human Resource Management) in 2008 from the University of Toledo. In 2009, I moved to Central Florida and lived there for six years. In December 2015, I moved back up to Ohio. In March 2016, I received my real estate license (I was thirty-one years old), and I have been working as a full-time Realtor ever since for my dad’s company. Fast forward to today, I am now a successful Realtor, and I am going to be taking the Broker’s exam within the next 6-12 months. I was voted to be on the Board of Directors for the Lorain County Association of Realtors in 2021, and I am still one of the 8 Realtors sitting on that board, helping make decisions for the 575+ Realtors in Lorain County.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
The hardest struggle about being an independent contractor/self-employed was building up a client base and getting my name out there. Most Realtors who fail will do so within the first two years because those are the hardest times.

As you know, we’re big fans of The Swanzer Agency. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about the brand?
The Swanzer Agency was started by my father back in the late ’80s/early ’90s. His company has always been a respectable Real Estate Brokerage in our local area. I am a full-time Realtor with The Swanzer Agency. My specialty as a realtor mainly is listing homes and getting them sold quickly for the highest dollar amount. One thing that sets our company apart from the competition is the company values that my dad has established over the years. We are a smaller brokerage with fewer Realtors than most companies. We try to keep it small because it helps to make sure that every Realtor in our brokerage is doing what they need to be doing in order to best serve the client. We love to have fun, and with my dad as the owner/boss, everyone who works here has the benefit of gaining his 45+ years of knowledge/experience.

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
There are many factors in being a successful Realtor. The biggest one, in my opinion, is the ability to market yourself and let everyone know who you are and what you do. Once people know who you are and have hired you as their realtor, it is very important to always be in communication with the buyer/seller and let them know what is happening during the transaction. Once a transaction is finished, it is also very important to stay in touch with your past clients.
