Today we’d like to introduce you to Amanda Uncapher.
Hi Amanda, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’ve always had a passion for fashion, which led me to attend The Ohio State University for fashion merchandising. After graduating, I gained hands-on experience working in several corporate fashion offices, where I learned the ins and outs of the industry—from operations to buying to brand development. Those experiences gave me the confidence and foundation to pursue something of my own.
What started as a small dream quickly grew into reality. I launched my own website and spent years connecting with customers through street fairs and pop-ups, building relationships and truly understanding what women were looking for in their everyday style. As I prepared to start my family, I knew I wanted a career that allowed me to be present while still doing what I love. Transitioning fully into ecommerce gave me that balance.
Today, my boutique is rooted in both passion and purpose. I intentionally offer limited quantities of each style so every piece feels special—because getting dressed should make you feel confident, comfortable, and uniquely you. The greatest part is supporting small businesses like us, allow us to give back to our community in different ways including sponsoring youth athletics, local school events and clubs.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Running a boutique means wearing every hat, and in the early days especially, I was doing everything myself—marketing, hiring, taxes, payroll, social media, sourcing—you name it. There’s a steep learning curve that comes with that, and it can be overwhelming trying to juggle the creative side of the business with the operational and financial responsibilities behind the scenes.
The pandemic brought a whole new level of uncertainty. Foot traffic disappeared almost overnight, events were canceled, and like many small businesses, I had to quickly adapt and lean even more into ecommerce. It took a lot of resilience, creativity, and patience to rebuild that momentum and reconnect with customers in a new way.
Even now, there are ongoing challenges. Rising living costs have changed how people shop, and lower in-store traffic can make things unpredictable. It pushes me to be even more intentional with what I buy, how I market, and how I connect with my customers. While it hasn’t been easy, those challenges have made me more resourceful and have helped me grow both as a business owner and as a person. Finding community over competition with my fellow small businesses has been key to overcoming the obstacles of small businesses.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about The Hanger Boutique?
At its heart, my boutique is all about offering thoughtfully curated pieces for real life. We carry women’s and kids’ clothing, along with accessories, shoes, and giftable items—everything you need to put together a look or find something special. Every piece is chosen with intention, focusing on styles that are wearable, comfortable, and still feel unique. Whether it’s getting dressed for a celebration, a busy day running errands, or even more difficult moments in life, we love helping customers style outfits that feel right for them.
My Christian faith has always been a central part of my life, and it naturally became a meaningful influence in my business. I’ve been able to create a space where people who share those values can find clothing that aligns with their lifestyle—especially pieces that feel modest, comfortable, and still stylish.
It’s also given me a greater sense of purpose beyond just retail. This boutique has become a platform to give back, serve others, and be a light in our community in whatever ways I can. One of the niches we’ve really leaned into is offering faith-based items—everything from thoughtfully designed graphic tees to devotionals and meaningful gifts. I’ve been very intentional about curating pieces that not only look good but also encourage and inspire. Being able to weave my faith into the store in an authentic way has been incredibly rewarding, and I hope it’s something customers can feel the moment they walk in or shop with us.
What sets us apart is our ability to offer quality, unique pieces while still keeping them affordable. I’m very intentional about finding styles that feel special without making customers feel like they’re overspending. I want shopping to feel exciting and enjoyable—not something you walk away from feeling guilty about.
As a mom, I understand how easy it is to put yourself last. It can feel hard to justify buying something for yourself when you’re always taking care of everyone else. That’s why creating a guilt-free shopping experience is so important to me. I want women to feel comfortable treating themselves, knowing they’re getting something they’ll love, wear often, and truly feel-good in.
It’s about more than just clothing—it’s about helping women feel confident, valued, and seen, without the pressure of high price points.
I’m also incredibly proud of the role we’ve been able to play in our community. Being involved in downtown events and giving back has been such a meaningful part of this journey. Seeing our logo on local sports jerseys has been a full-circle moment, and collaborating with other small businesses to create special experiences—like hosting a fashion show, which has always been a dream of mine—has made it all the more rewarding.
Brand-wise, I’m most proud of how intentional we are with our selection. We carry limited quantities of each style so our customers can feel like they’re wearing something special, not something everyone else has. That balance of comfort, versatility, and uniqueness is really the core of our brand, and it’s what I want readers to know most—when you shop with us, you’re getting pieces that were chosen with care, for you and your everyday life, while also supporting a business that truly values its community.
What matters most to you?
What matters most to me is my family—especially my kids. They were truly the catalyst for starting this business. I wanted to create something that allowed me to pursue my passion while still being present for them, and this boutique has given me that opportunity.
My kids have grown up alongside this business. They’ve spent time in the store, met customers, and become a familiar part of the day-to-day experience. It’s been such a blessing to be able to bring them with me to work, even though it hasn’t always been easy. There were times I worried that having them there might be a distraction or turn customers away, but it’s actually been the opposite. So many women have embraced it—they relate to it, they appreciate it, and it’s created an even deeper sense of community within the boutique.
At the end of the day, my family is my “why.” They’re the reason I took the leap, and they continue to inspire how I run my business—with heart, authenticity, and a focus on what really matters.
