Today we’d like to introduce you to T.A. Parsa.
Hi T.A., thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My name is T.A. Parsa, and I founded A Ray of Sunshine Floral alongside my wife, Vicki. Before starting the floral studio, I spent years working in corporate roles involving project management, product management, business development, operations, and vendor management. My background has always been centered around building systems, improving processes, growing relationships, and delivering strong customer experiences.
Over time, especially with how quickly technology and artificial intelligence have been changing so many industries, I found myself wanting to build something more personal, human-centered, and connected to the local community. I wanted to create something where relationships, creativity, and genuine customer care still truly matter.
Vicki has always had a strong creative side and a passion for thoughtful design and helping people feel cared for. As we talked more about building something together, the floral industry felt like a natural fit because it combines creativity, emotion, and meaningful moments in people’s lives.
That eventually led to the launch of A Ray of Sunshine Floral. From the beginning, one of our biggest goals was to create a different kind of floral experience…one that feels personal, thoughtful, and relationship-driven rather than transactional. We felt there was room in the community for a more boutique floral studio where people feel heard and cared for rather than treated like just another order number.
We believe exceptional customer service is our biggest differentiator. We take the time to talk with customers, understand the occasion and the person receiving the flowers, and create something that feels intentional rather than mass-produced.
Vicki leads much of the floral design and creative direction, while I focus heavily on operations, strategy, systems, customer experience, and long-term growth. Together, we’ve built A Ray of Sunshine Floral as a family-run boutique studio centered around care, responsiveness, quality, and genuine relationships with our customers.
The name itself was inspired by our youngest son, Noor, whose name relates to light and sunshine, and that idea really shaped the spirit behind the business…bringing brightness, comfort, and thoughtful human connection into important moments in people’s lives.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely has not been a completely smooth road. Like many small business owners, we’ve had setbacks and moments where we had to adapt quickly and keep moving forward.
One of the biggest challenges actually happened before A Ray of Sunshine Floral officially opened. About two years ago, I was in the process of purchasing an existing local florist. We went through months of planning, negotiations, and preparation, and we were about a week away from closing when the sellers unexpectedly decided not to move forward with the sale. Shortly after that, the business ended up closing its doors entirely.
At the time, it was obviously frustrating and disappointing because we had invested a tremendous amount of time and energy into the process. But looking back, it pushed us toward building something of our own from the ground up instead of simply taking over an existing business.
Starting from scratch comes with its own challenges…building a customer base, creating brand awareness, managing inventory, learning the seasonal nature of the floral industry, and balancing creativity with operations. But those experiences also made us more resilient and more intentional about the kind of business we wanted to create.
One thing that became very clear to me through this process is that local florists still play an important role in the community. As Hilliard and the greater Columbus area continue to grow, there is still strong demand for businesses that provide personal service, custom floral design, and real human connection during important moments in people’s lives.
Grocery stores certainly sell flowers, but what we provide is very different. We focus on boutique, custom floral design and a highly personalized customer experience. We take the time to understand the occasion, the recipient, and what the customer is trying to express so that every arrangement feels thoughtful and intentional rather than mass-produced.
That’s really the space we’re trying to fill in the community, and we believe that personal approach is what continues to set us apart.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
A Ray of Sunshine Floral is a family-owned boutique floral studio based in Hilliard, serving the greater Columbus area. We specialize in custom floral design for everyday occasions, sympathy arrangements, celebrations, intimate weddings, and meaningful life moments. Our focus has always been on creating designs that feel thoughtful, personal, and intentional rather than overly standardized or mass-produced.
What really sets us apart is the level of customer service and personalization we provide. We don’t believe flowers should feel transactional. We spend time understanding the occasion, the personality of the recipient, and what the customer is trying to express emotionally through the arrangement. That relationship-focused approach is a major part of our identity as a brand.
We’re also very intentional about being a boutique studio rather than trying to operate as a high-volume “assembly line” florist. We want customers to feel like they are working directly with people who genuinely care about the experience and the final product.
Vicki leads much of the floral design and creative direction, and she has a natural ability to create arrangements that feel elegant, balanced, and emotionally connected to the moment they’re meant for. I focus heavily on operations, customer experience, systems, and long-term growth strategy. Together, we’ve built the business around the idea that great service and genuine care still matter.
Brand-wise, what we’re probably most proud of is the trust we’ve started building within the local community in a relatively short amount of time. We’ve been incredibly grateful for the support from customers who value supporting local, family-owned businesses and who appreciate a more personalized floral experience.
We also take pride in creating a welcoming, approachable environment. Flowers can be tied to some of the happiest and hardest moments in people’s lives, and we try to treat every order with the level of care and attention it deserves.
What we want readers to know most is that A Ray of Sunshine Floral is built around people and relationships first. Yes, we design flowers, but more importantly, we help people celebrate, comfort, honor, support, and connect with others through thoughtful floral design and genuine customer care.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
I would say the most important characteristic behind our success has been genuinely caring about people and the customer experience. Both Vicki and I come from strong customer service and customer experience backgrounds, so we’re very intentional about making sure customers feel heard, cared for, and genuinely supported throughout the entire process.
From the beginning, we wanted A Ray of Sunshine Floral to feel personal, approachable, and relationship-driven rather than transactional.
As more companies move toward automation and technology, we’ve actually seen many customers wanting the opposite experience. A lot of people prefer to call us directly or come into the shop to place orders face-to-face because they want to speak with a real person, explain the occasion, and feel that human connection. That was something I strongly believed customers still valued, and it’s been rewarding to see that proven true through the growth of the business and the relationships we’ve built.
We take the time to understand the story behind each order and create something thoughtful and meaningful for the customer and recipient. That level of care, responsiveness, and attention to detail has helped us build trust within the community.
