Hidden Gems: Meet Shannon Clark of Color Vibe Salon

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shannon Clark.  

Hi Shannon, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I graduated from cosmetology school in 2002 and in the early days of my career, I had no idea what I was doing. I worked behind the chair pretty oblivious to what truly goes into being a cosmetologist. 

Even after working behind the chair a bit, I still felt like I still just “wasn’t getting it” so I then decided in 2004 to work at Michael’s Salon & Day Spa in Centerville, OH as an assistant. At that point my career was changed forever, I was learning and growing as a cosmetologist in so many ways and areas. I truly felt like I finally understood what being a cosmetologist was for the first time in my career. 

Then after moving from salon to salon since I just couldn’t find my place – I knew I had to start my own business, even though I didn’t have a clue how and was full of fear and self-doubt- I took that leap of faith anyway on March 1st, 2020. 

Fast forward to now. I turned my knowledge into my being. Color Vibe Salon has been open for a little over two years. 

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Absolutely not! When I had finally found a building to rent, I was so excited, and then to have the pandemic start right around that time was gut-wrenching. Salons were closed on March 15th, 2020, and I struggled to get everything that I needed to be prepared to open when that time came. On May 15th, 2020 I was officially able to open up the salon doors, still in the full force of the pandemic and the unknown of what was to come next. I worked by myself for about 5-6 months before bringing in another stylist. 

Even today I feel like owning a business isn’t for the faint of heart. It’s a lot of work, but I am so grateful that I was able to figure out how to turn my strengths into a meaningful business. I have learned throughout the whole process that you’ll experience real growth and lasting change through action. It’s not enough to know what to do. You must trust your heart and do it!

Great hair and good vibes!!! That is the motto of Color Vibe Salon located in Troy, Ohio. 

The salon prides itself on creating an atmosphere that feels like a home away from home for every client! Our independent hair artist creates a wide range of specialty services. 

It wasn’t about the name on the front of the building when creating the salon, it was about the environment created inside!! From stylist to clients, I created a positive, team-oriented, and beautiful atmosphere. 

I am very selective when choosing who will be a part of the team. I truly believe that you can teach anyone how to cut and color hair, but you can’t teach someone how to be a good person!!! I didn’t hire anyone at Color Vibe Salon that I personally wouldn’t let do my hair.
