Today we’d like to introduce you to Riley Hundt.
Riley, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
While everyday feels as though we’re just starting, the true beginning of GoodYard is found in my childhood- in the sweaty afternoons of my parents backyard. As a young rascal I was constantly redeeming my bad behavior through yardwork. Later on as a teenager, I found I loved the outdoors and had already spent a great deal of time there; so I chose to spend the next several years on professional job-sites learning the finer details of my industry. By my mid-twenties I was fine tuning industry skills and discovering a propensity for serving others. 2020 revealed itself as the perfect time to start a business, so I combined the experience life gave me, my entrepreneurial drive, a few other things and got started with a friend.
Here we are five years later- it still feels like day one. We have the same ambition and drive that we had when we started (although now we have a foundation to stand on). At the same time, we’re excited for what’s down the road.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road has not been smooth- in fact it has been very bumpy. If I spent time naming the bumps, we’d be here until we’re old and dead. Although I’ll say this: each bump in the road, every struggle and unexpected turn is forging what feels like an unbreakable spirit in our company and team. I now look forward to the struggles as each one makes us better.
We’ve been impressed with GoodYard, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We are GoodYard. Outdoor contractors from northeast Ohio, serving residential and commercial properties in the Greater Cleveland Area. We design, install, maintenance & replace outdoor features. From lawns and landscapes to patios, lighting, fountains, ponds & more.
We focus on delivering the highest quality service possible all 4-seasons long. Customer service, communication, timeliness and professionalism make up the recipe to our secret formula (at least that’s what our customers would say). We are a small but focused team and we aim to make the biggest impact wherever possible.
Any big plans?
As the surrounding areas in northern Ohio continue to develop, we look forward to meeting and working for all the wonderful people that move here and fall in love with this truly special place.
Of course like any entrepreneur, I too share the dream of responsibly scaling the company and operations to a sweet spot. That should allow for the greatest impact, balance and the most appropriate alignment of our clients, our team and our environment. We’re dreamers, builders, creators. We’ll keep dreaming, keep building and continue creating- as long as we can.
