Hidden Gems: Meet Melissa Wilson of The Method Marketing

Today we’d like to introduce you to Melissa Wilson.

Hi Melissa, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
After being on the buying side for 14 years with various marketing and business development vendors, I decided I wanted to offer something different and something fair. Sure, there were plenty of reputable agencies I retained, but there was an overwhelming number of deceptive agencies. So, I left the corporate world and founded The Method Marketing (TMM). My husband and now business partner, Derek Wilson, would exit his renown career as a business development and product manager turned COO in 2023 and join TMM as the official business partner.

Our expectations and work style remain the same. We’re a little more lean and automated (just a little) and rely on subject matter experts to provide a fully integrated strategy. If you need extra help, expert guidance, or someone to run it for you, TMM can do that for you.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It’s never a smooth road, leaving the comfort of the corporate world to build something new on your own. You know what? I wouldn’t have it any other way. There’s a reckoning coming to the marketing industry and we’re in the right place, at the right time, to take it on and lead that charge.

We’ve been impressed with The Method Marketing, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We help B2B and B2C companies grow by solving revenue and engagement challenges. Our work is built around our clients budget, timeline, and risk tolerance. Why work with us if it doesn’t fit your business? We focus on what works, measure the results, and show you exactly what’s happening. There’s no buzzword-vomit or fluff. It’s about a mutually beneficial relationship and earning respect and value. That’s why we’re clear the strategy and the execution that drives their growth. We’re an open book and that’s how agencies should operate.

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
How original of us to discuss AI? Derek is particularly opinionated on this subject and he has every reason to be with the development of Method Signals. Look, AI is a gift for marketing strategists. I’m not taking shots at marketers. I’m taking shots at the bad marketers. The ones that make inflated promises and can’t deliver…or worse, they had no intention from the beginning to deliver. AI will expose the marketers hiding behind the busywork, which is 100% execution; so it will highlight the strategists, which are the marketers that generate revenue and work within your organization, outside of marketing. If your marketer can be replaced by AI, they should have been replaced a long time ago.
