Hidden Gems: Meet Leah Lauchlan of National Sales Director with Mary Kay Cosmetics

Today we’d like to introduce you to Leah Lauchlan.

Hi Leah, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started my entrepreneurial business in Mary Kay Cosmetics in my early 20’s. I was disillusioned by my teaching job at the time, realizing it was not the dreamy job I hoped it would be when I was studying education in college. I had attended a Mary Kay conference and I saw women loving their career and loving their LIFE, having roles and wives and moms, plus having a thriving career and income. I could not pass up the chance to build something of my own, with the flexibility to design my life with unlimited earning and success potential. The quiet desire in my heart to build something on my own terms led to one of my biggest life decisions to start my own business and there’s not a single part of my life or myself that my business has not transformed for the better.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Smooth road? That’s funny. Of all struggles, which there were many, the one that stands out the most was the opportunity and the need to step out of my comfort zone to grow. It was, and is absolutely unavoidable. If you want to build a business, you will need to get comfortable being uncomfortable. The stretch out of your comfort zone is so scary and painful, but it’s the only way to grow. Many people miss the fullness of who they could be for the fear of discomfort. One of my favorite quotes is in a speech by Theodore Roosevelt – he spoke of “daring greatly” in the “arena” of life instead of being a “cold and timid soul that knows neither victory nor defeat” for the lack of stepping out of their comfort zone. If we fail, let’s at least fail while daring greatly.

I have two main roles in my business. One is to coach and mentor women to build their business. The other role is providing concierge skin care and makeup advice to women who want to put their best face forward in their main roles in life.

What an incredible place to raise a family and be rooted in a community of amazing people!
