Today we’d like to introduce you to Keisha Brown.
Hi Keisha, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m LaKeisha Brown, the founder of L Brown Bookkeeping. My journey into bookkeeping really started with my passion for helping businesses understand their numbers and make smarter financial decisions.
Before launching my firm, I spent over 20 years in the financial industry, working with organizations like American Express, Bank of America, and HSBC. During that time, I saw firsthand how many business owners were working incredibly hard but still struggling to truly understand their financials.
That experience inspired me to start L Brown Bookkeeping, where my mission is simple:
help business owners gain clarity, save time, and increase profitability by having clean, accurate books.
Today I work with service-based businesses such as law firms, contractors, restaurants, and other growing companies, providing services like bookkeeping, financial clean-ups, payroll support, and QuickBooks optimization.
What I love most about this work is giving business owners their time back—so they can focus on running and growing their business instead of worrying about the numbers.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Like most entrepreneurial journeys, it hasn’t been a completely smooth road. After spending more than 20 years working with financial institutions like American Express, Bank of America, and HSBC, transitioning into building my own business meant learning how to wear many hats—from client service to marketing and operations. One challenge has also been helping business owners understand the value of clean, accurate financials before problems arise. Those experiences have helped shape how I run L Brown Bookkeeping today—focused on clarity, trust, and helping business owners make smarter financial decisions.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about L Brown Bookkeeping?
L Brown Bookkeeping is a professional bookkeeping firm dedicated to helping small and mid-sized businesses gain clarity and confidence in their financials. With over 20 years of experience in the financial industry—including roles with organizations like American Express, Bank of America, and HSBC—I founded the firm to give business owners reliable financial insight so they can make better decisions and focus on growing their businesses.
We specialize in QuickBooks Online bookkeeping, financial clean-ups, payroll support, and ongoing monthly bookkeeping services. Many of the clients we work with come to us when their books have fallen behind or become overwhelming. One of our strengths is taking complex or messy financial records and turning them into accurate, organized financial reports that business owners and their CPAs can rely on.
What sets L Brown Bookkeeping apart is our combination of deep financial experience, attention to detail, and a partnership mindset with our clients. We don’t just categorize transactions—we help business owners understand what their numbers are telling them so they can make smarter financial decisions.
Brand-wise, what I’m most proud of is the trust we build with clients. Bookkeeping is very personal because it involves the financial health of a business. My goal is to create a service where business owners feel supported, informed, and confident about their financial position.
At the end of the day, what I want people to know about L Brown Bookkeeping is that our mission is simple: help business owners save time, reduce stress, and gain clear financial insight so they can focus on what they do best—running their business.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
One of the most important lessons I’ve learned along my journey is that clarity creates confidence—both in business and in finances. Many business owners start with a great idea and a lot of passion, but without clear financial information it becomes very difficult to make informed decisions.
Through my work, I’ve seen how powerful it is when entrepreneurs truly understand their numbers. When their books are clean and their financial reports are accurate, they can make smarter decisions about growth, hiring, pricing, and investments.
Another lesson I’ve learned is the importance of building trust and strong relationships. Bookkeeping isn’t just about transactions and reports—it’s about supporting the people behind the business. When clients know they have someone they can rely on to keep their finances organized and accurate, it allows them to focus on what they do best.
Ultimately, the biggest lesson has been that good financial clarity gives business owners the freedom to grow their businesses with confidence.
