Hidden Gems: Meet Johnny Fudella of Fud’s Coin Rings

Today we’d like to introduce you to Johnny Fudella.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
During WWII, US sailors would find creative ways to spend time. One popular way was to make rings from silver coins. My grandfather, a torpedoman third class who enlisted in 1942, taught me the art of coin ring making.

The hobby turned business after sharing my skills on social media; it was an instant hit and everyone seemed to want a coin ring. My process has evolved to include modern techniques and includes special finishes like electroplating and powder coating but credit will always go to Grandpa John who taught me the craft circa 2006.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
My only struggle has been keeping up with demand, a struggle I’m sure all business owners hope for. I am a full-time police officer and evolved my business from a hobby, however, I still maintain three law enforcement jobs and family time on top of running Fud’s Coin Rings, LLC.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Change is our canvas. At Fud’s Coin Rings, we specialize in turning coins into custom-ordered works of art for you to wear. From rings to earrings, necklaces, and more, everything is made upon request. Special years, such as birth dates or anniversaries, can be incorporated into your jewelry and modified with special finishes and coatings to make the perfect custom gift.

All of our products are handmade after receiving an order with thousands of variants or options. The jewelry maintains all of the original coin detail and can be customized further with electroplating or powder coating. These pieces are sturdy, unique, made in the USA, and beat anything you can purchase in a big box store.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
Mantua has always been my home and will always have a place in my heart. With just over one thousand residents, it bears a striking resemblance to Mayberry from The Andy Griffith Show. Community members greet each other, support each other, and come to the call of those in need. Mantua has plenty to do and see as a historic railroad town.

The former Erie-Lackawanna Railroad bed has been converted into a seven-mile walking/cycling trail that leads to the Village of Garrettsville. Canoeing and kayaking are also popular, as the great Cuyahoga River runs right through Mantua. Small businesses hold each other up, from the cornerstone Restoration 44 Coffee Company to the sweet treats of Kira’s Sweet Bakes. Mantua is a great place to work, live, and own a business in. I have nothing negative to say about it, I owe Mantua for making me who I am.
