Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Borovica.
Jennifer, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I am a person with a history of CPTSD, ADHD, and substance use disorder. January 18th, 2006, was the day that I got sober and the day my journey truly began. I got sober in an IOP setting, and during my time in treatment, I had a strong desire to become a therapist. Once I got sober, I put my work boots on and began working tirelessly to create a new life for myself. I entrenched myself in the 12-step program, got into therapy, and went back to school to pursue my dream of being a therapist…
In 2012, I was awarded a full scholarship to Case Western Reserve University as a recipient of the Leadership Fellows Program from the Mandel Foundation. I graduated from CWRU in 2014 and began my career as a clinical social worker. During this time, I was immersed in the Cleveland Triathlon community. Over the course of 6 years, I completed 3 Ironman distance triathlons, numerous 70.3, shorter distance races, and even became a triathlon coach, which I am still coaching to this day. Endurance sports brought me to an amazing community of like-minded people. It also gave me a significant outlet for the untreated CPTSD and helped to regulate my ADHD. Both the CPTSD and ADHD were undiagnosed at the time and were causing so many symptoms that caused me great distress. Eventually, sport led to numerous injuries, surgeries, and significant burnout, all of which made me pause and find my way back into the therapy room.
In 2019, I found the therapist that would forever change my life both personally and professionally. Finally, a therapist that understood the impact of trauma. I began years of deep, intensive healing, which eventually brought me to a significant spiritual awakening that lasted over a few years. This time of my life was marked with numerous spiritual experiences and the profound gift of remembering my truth, the truth of who we all are. I was shown our divine nature, a soul remembrance if you want to call it, but the divinity in all of us. I was also shown the ways that our traumas and survival selves work to keep us from that level of remembering. I deeply believe that inside all of us is our authentic nature, wholeness, and a state of perfection.
Today, I own a private practice where I specialize in working with people with CPTSD, ADHD, and addiction concerns. I am trained in Internal Family Systems Therapy and Somatic Experiencing. I feel deeply in alignment with both of these practices as they bring us back to our bodies and allow us to remove barriers that block us from our state of remembering. I am honored to be able to share this work with my clients.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road has been anything but smooth, in fact it has been insanely hard and some days I am completely surprised at where I am at because of everything that I have been through. With that being said, I also know that where I am at is because of everything that I’ve been through. I am persistent to a fault. I am relentless in my work. I push through when I’m tired and can’t go anymore. I will fight tirelessly until things are resolved. Those that have CPTSD will understand this. Those that are in recovery from substance use will also understand this. This is also why I love working with people in recovery because their work ethic is impeccable. I may be in danger for burnout at times, it’s a line I’m always dancing, but when you have CPTSD, and substance use you have no choice but to fight if you want to get better.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a trauma-focused therapist. I have a small private practice in Rocky River, OH, where I specialize in working with adults with CPTSD, ADHD, and substance use concerns. I am trained in Internal Family Systems, IFS Healing Circles, Somatic Experiencing, and EMDR. My work is very specialized, and most people reach out when they are looking for something a little different than traditional talk therapy. I offer individual therapy and IFS Healing Circles, which are a very unique offering.
I have a special fondness of my brand, Rebel Rising. It is a personal story of my journey, going from being a rebellious angry teenager to following a spiritual path that led to inner healing and a spiritual awakening. The brand is really the story of the heroine’s journey. A story about healing the wounding of the feminine and coming into a more balanced state of being. I am really proud of this brand.
So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
I really love connecting with other professionals. Whether they are therapists, healers, dietitians, functional medicine practitioners, coaches, etc….I really do love networking.
