Hidden Gems: Meet Elizabeth Wood of Elizabeth Wood Yoga

Today we’d like to introduce you to Elizabeth Wood.

Hi Elizabeth, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Yes! Thank you for inviting me to do this interview.

I began practicing yoga when I was 12 or 13 years old.

Fitness expert Denise Austin incorporated yoga into her 30-minute Daily Workout TV shows, which I tuned into regularly to build strength and flexibility and improve my cheerleading skills. I made the team and forgot about yoga for a few years. I also practiced yoga during college because it helped me feel peaceful.

In my late 20s, I returned to practicing yoga. It became a bigger part of my life and I wanted to share it with others. I enrolled in a 200-hour teacher training program through Yoga on High in Columbus and have been teaching since 2017.

And now, I practice daily. It helps me feel well and move with ease. I’m honored to share it with others.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I returned to yoga during a time when I felt unwell. My kids were very young and I was navigating health issues.

During this part of my yoga journey, I remember that it was challenging to do some of the breathing practices and to hold yoga poses for a long time. With continued practice, though, I became stronger and more flexible – both physically and mentally.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Elizabeth Wood Yoga?
My business helps adults and teens learn tools for wellbeing that can be used in everyday life. Offerings include day retreats and public classes, some of which include collaborating with other wellness professionals and local organizations.

I’ve taught thousands of yoga classes in a variety of settings, including schools, yoga studios, parks and community centers.

I specialize in working with people who’ve experienced challenging life circumstances. I’ve led a trauma-informed yoga program at a juvenile detention center since 2019.

One thing I’m proud of is that people recognize that this type of work is valuable in our community. Earlier this year, I was honored to receive the 2025 Pillar of the Community Award in Canal Winchester.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I enjoy the parks! I don’t know what I like the least.
