Hidden Gems: Meet Dr. Jesse Sanders of Redefined

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Jesse Sanders.

Hi Dr. Sanders, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
I am Dr. Jesse Sanders, and I am a Mental Health Therapist, Speaker, Public Speaker, Influencer, Conversationalist, and best-selling author. Also, I have two beautiful and undeniably awesome daughters, Brianna and Brielle. In addition, I am a new grandfather, who I refer to as my “Little Man”. And I am here because of one of my personal experiences and life’s detours. I previously faced hurt, anger, anxiety, and other unhealthy and crippling emotions. I was compelled to identify and overcome my pain points. Furthermore, I was able to witness and personally experience the cyclone of the family court procedures. I observed families combating and while that was taking place, the child or children were hurting and withdrawing before our very eyes. I too studied my daughter and observed that she too was in the storm with me and my pain as a parent was indescribable. I have always loved helping the oppressed, & partnering with them to redefine their identities and journeys through positive, inclusive & expressive means.

Therefore, after my storm was over and the rainbow was visible. I decided to further my education in Psychology so that I could effectively partner and help those that have been oppressed, self-realize, and self-actualize their life on their own terms and be able to find their identity and purpose. I made a conscious decision, that rather than sitting back and shamefully shaking my head, I am going to become a redefining impact and voice. As a result, many individuals and families are not crippling themselves emotionally and have made a conscious decision to not become another dysfunctional individual or family statistic. We do this by creating a strategic plan, identifying the problem or problems. And then the real redefining journey began.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Because I am a single and co-parenting father, we certainty most of the time did not have a dull moment in our home and still do not…lol. At the time I made this decision, my oldest daughter was attending acting classes and my youngest daughter was attending gymnastics. I of course worked a full-time job. I had to methodically select an accountability partner, which I think everyone should have one. My accountability partner and sister Brandy, as well as my best friend Doug had complete knowledge of my responsibilities and goals. There were check-ins that took place. In addition, I created a schedule for myself so that I could balance my full schedule. Also, I leaned in on my faith and great wisdom and encouragement from my grandmother.

However, let me be clear, I am not stating there were not some dark or exhausting days. Yet, I reminded myself that our words are the storeroom of power and we possess that power. Finally, I created self-affirmation. When we create affirmative actions, we must form affirmative words. Because we become, what we consume.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
As a Redefining Mental Health Therapist, Speaker, Public Speaker, Influencer, Conversationalist, and best-selling author. It is my commitment to have relevant conversations to redefine lives in a radical way. I provide therapeutic and social support to individuals and families. I  challenge those that I encounter to operate in the realm of reality and not delusional creativity. Although it may not be an easy task, it is a necessary task.

I remind people that when  we rob ourselves of tunneling deep to identify and grow in our authentic self, we rob ourselves of exploring.

Because I have my own personal story of life’s pitfalls and detours. I serve from that authentic and respectfully transparent place within. Also, because I am a single and co-parenting father, Redefined is not simply a job, but a movement as well. As my co-parent, Liatresia and I have a firm and positive relationship. Which gives the ability to insert our learning moments,  positive, and healthy experiences into my craft. That matters to people, because  I identify with the fundamental needs for our community and those that I serve. I serve an inclusive manner and inclusive audiences because we all have a story. I am proud and humble that everything I do is relevant, redefining, and radical!

Any big plans?
Dr. Matt Wilmot and I have written a redefining book, titled “You and What Army?: Redefining Self and Community”. It will be released in May of 2022. This book is not your common self-help book. Not only do we share some of our stories. But we discuss exit strategies, childhood trauma, critical thinking, how we are conditioned, how to intentionally take control of your life and much more! Understanding that we  cannot allow our being to be dictated by what we have been preconditioned to be by circumstances, culture, and more.

Also, we are working on the launch for the Redefining Therapy Support Group and the Redefining Mastermind Certificate Group. The Redefining Therapy Support Group encompasses therapy support, and the mastermind group embraces therapy and business/organization guidance. Many people are experiencing mental health issues because they are not progressive in their purpose. The Redefining Mastermind Certificate Group starts with positioning the foundation of acknowledging the pitfalls, the causes, triggers, etc. After that is dominated, we have business and credit consultants that will deliver impactful information to commence and sustain your movement.

Finally, we will continue to enhance Cocktails and Conversation, which is in-person and virtual, every 1st Thursday of the month. It was birthed after the persistent request from many in the community and my clients. Courtney Alexander and I simply are commencing relevant conversations to redefine lives in a radical way. And Toni Bell coordinates our networking during the event. People from many backgrounds come together to talk, network, and mingle.
