Hidden Gems: Meet Devyn Buschard of House of Haze Electric Beauty

Today we’d like to introduce you to Devyn Buschard.

Hi Devyn, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
All of my life I have idolized my Mother. She is a Hair Stylist and Salon Owner, so I grew up tagging along to hair shows and spending most of my time in the salon. Watching her clients’ reactions as they fell in love with what they saw in the mirror sparked my love for the beauty industry.

After High School, I bounced around between life paths. Different Universities, different majors, Cosmetology School, just trying to find my purpose. I knew I belonged in the beauty industry but I had no interest in being a hair stylist and in small town Northern Kentucky, at the time, there was not many options besides hair.

While working on my education, I worked a handful of Makeup Artist jobs, including being a Bridal Makeup Artist at my mom’s salon, which was my absolute favorite. I learned so many skills as a makeup artist that, at the time, I didn’t know would benefit my future enormously- client trust, individual skin tones and what benefits them each, client relationships, teaching clients to achieve looks on their own.

I then met my now fiance, Craig Binaut, a Cincinnati Tattoo Artist at Studio 220. His passion and deep knowledge for tattooing started to build my bridge between Makeup and Permanent Makeup. I enrolled in a certification class, received my Tattoo Artist license and began working with the Team at Studio 220. The education I received working within a tattoo studio is something that I am thankful for every day.

In March of 2021, I opened my own Permanent Makeup studio, House of Haze, in Newport. I am a NKY native and Monmouth Street was so comfortable to me, I knew this is where I wanted to plant my roots. House of Haze is inspired by that reaction I used to see on my Mother’s clients’ faces. This is a place that is all about you and investing within yourself- no matter who you are. During these weird times in the world, at House of Haze, our differences are irrelevant and our common goal is celebrated- for you to love yourself even more.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Has it been a smooth road?! My life is the bumpiest off-road path there is. I bounced around colleges for a couple of years struggling to find my purpose. It was a long and exhausting journey, frustrating my family and forever being asked, “So, what are you doing now?”

Opening my own studio was terrifying but, in complete honesty, I had nothing to lose so what was I so worried about? I thank my lucky stars every day for my beautiful clients that keep my business growing and appreciate this safe space that is dedicated completely to them.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about House of Haze Electric Beauty?
House of Haze Electric Beauty is a Permanent Makeup studio that specializes in Powder Brows, Lip Blush and Lash Extensions. I believe what sets my studio apart is the diversity within my clients. I remember being asked, during multiple Branding workshops, who my ideal client was. Were they young? Were they cool on Instagram? How much money did they make? My ideal client is simply anyone who wants to receive any of my services. That simple.

How do you think about luck?
Definitely finding my studio when I did. I truly found the needle in the haystack.
