Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittany Schroeder.
Hi Brittany, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
How Core Moves Came to Be
I was that kid who was always moving — not because it was easy, but because I needed it. I was hypermobile and uncoordinated, dealing with seizing low back pain, tailbone pain, and debilitating menstrual cramps that often kept me out of school. Movement became my lifeline. Through years of exploring karate, running, yoga, Pilates, and eventually weight training, I discovered that consistent, mindful movement could help me reclaim my life.
In physical therapy school, I felt pulled toward underserved areas like women’s health and pelvic health — conditions that were often overlooked or misunderstood, yet so profoundly life-altering for those experiencing them. As I began practicing, it became clear that healing isn’t a quick fix. It’s multifactorial and ongoing. But once physical therapy ends, many patients are left wondering: What now?
I was also disillusioned by the limitations of the insurance-based healthcare system — where care is restricted, clinicians are overburdened, and profits often take priority over people. So I stepped away from that model and opened Core Moves, a cash-based pelvic floor physical therapy clinic and wellness studio in Columbus, Ohio.
Here, we do things differently. Every patient is seen by a qualified pelvic health specialist — never someone who took a weekend course and was handed a pelvic floor caseload. That’s unfair to both provider and patient as pelvic health is deeply nuanced. Appointments are always 1:1. No shared gym spaces, no awkward group sessions when dealing with deeply personal concerns.
Our approach is full-body, integrative, and deeply human. We don’t just prescribe kegels — we address alignment, breath, strength, nervous system regulation, and movement literacy. To support long-term success, our Pilates-based wellness studio offers small-group classes so patients can maintain and even progress after PT. Because let’s be honest — even the most motivated patients stop doing the same five home exercises after a while. Community, variety, and expert guidance keep people moving forward.
Core Moves is more than a clinic — it’s a movement. And it’s here to help people reconnect with their bodies, rediscover their strength, and live with more ease.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Definitely not a smooth road — but a meaningful one.
Starting a practice outside the traditional insurance model was both empowering and terrifying. It meant walking away from a predictable paycheck and a system I had trained within for years. I had to unlearn a lot — not just clinically, but also in terms of business, marketing, operations, and patient education. None of that was taught in PT school, and navigating it while still seeing a full caseload was a steep learning curve.
There were financial risks. There were months of uncertainty. There were plenty of late nights spent learning how to build a website, set up systems, or figure out how to ethically market pelvic health in a world where the topic is still taboo.
Another major challenge was redefining what “success” looks like in healthcare. The dominant system prioritizes volume and metrics over relationships and outcomes — and I was committed to doing the opposite. That meant trusting the long game: focusing on delivering exceptional care, building trust in the community, and letting word of mouth grow the practice.
If anyone tells you starting your own practice is easy, run. They’re either selling something or haven’t done it themselves.
When people ask me if it’s worth it — if they should risk it all to open their own clinic — I always ask: How much do you care about making the rules? If that’s your top priority, then yes, do it. Build something that aligns with your values, your vision, and your standards of care.
But if you’re hoping to gain more time, better work-life balance, or more money — maybe that’ll come, eventually. But not at first. At first, you’ll be doing everything. You’ll be the provider, the admin, the marketer, the janitor. There will be late nights, self-doubt, and systems you’ll rebuild a dozen times.
On a personal level, I’ve had to manage my own health, burnout, and boundaries. Running a business while trying to hold space for others’ healing is incredibly rewarding — but it can also be draining without the right support and systems in place.
So buckle in. It’s not easy. But if you’re deeply called to do it your way — it’s worth every bit of the ride.
As you know, we’re big fans of Core Moves. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Core Moves is more than just a pelvic floor physical therapy clinic — it’s a movement-forward, neuroscience-informed, shame-free space for healing.
We specialize in pelvic health, but we treat people, not just pelvic floors. Our services support women, men, and gender-diverse folks through every life phase — from painful periods to postpartum, from menopause to persistent pelvic pain. We take a full-body approach grounded in both science and compassion. Yes, we use internal techniques when appropriate, but we also teach you how your breath, posture, nervous system, movement patterns, and daily habits shape your pelvic health.
We’re known for our high clinical standards. At Core Moves, you will always be seen by a licensed pelvic health specialist — not a generalist with a weekend course. You’ll never be shuffled into a shared gym or handed a generic home program. You’ll receive one-on-one care that honors your experience and your body.
What sets us apart is how we support patients beyond the treatment room. Our onsite Pilates studio offers trauma-informed, small-group classes designed specifically to help patients continue progressing after rehab. We know that most people don’t keep doing the same five home exercises forever — and we don’t expect you to. That’s why we built a supportive, inclusive movement community to help you stay consistent and feel strong in your body long-term.
At the heart of it all is a brand that believes healing should be individualized, movement should be sustainable, and pelvic health should never be taboo. We use metaphors, humor, clinical expertise, and deep empathy to help people feel safe in their bodies again. Our work is personal — because we’ve lived it, too.
If you’re looking for a practice that listens, adapts, and walks the path with you — that’s Core Moves.
What makes you happy?
There are the little things that spark joy in the moment: a piece of really good dark chocolate — I mean really good, bean to bar, like 90% cacao with fruity notes. I also look forward all day to my five dogs greeting me at the door, tail wagging like I’m their favorite person in the world. A welcome-home hug from someone I trust. A long walk in nature with nothing else on the agenda, the sun shining, a gentle breeze, and space to just be. And of course, hearing a patient’s latest win — like finally being able to garden for three hours without pain, assistance, or breaks. Those moments light me up.
Then there are the deeper, steadier sources of happiness: purpose, drive, building something meaningful. Core Moves has been one of the greatest sources of that for me. And it’s not done. I’m working toward expanding access — reaching people who can’t afford cash-based 1:1 care or who live in areas without pelvic floor specialists nearby. That vision keeps me going. It fills my cup in a different way.
But honestly? Chocolate often does the trick.
