Hidden Gems: Meet Angela Rozzi-Burns of Rejuvenating Skincare with Angela

Today we’d like to introduce you to Angela Rozzi-Burns.

Hi Angela, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I chose my career later in life than most, so it’s like a second career. I spent the first 46 years of my life working for my family’s fireworks factory. My family has been in the fireworks business since 1895. It’s a long family tradition that I’m very proud to be part of. Working there was exciting and challenging but the best part for me was seeing and working with my dad every day. He had an unbeatable work ethic, was very artistic, and one of the wisest men I’ve ever known. I learned a lot from him about running a business and life in general.

After both of my parents died, it was a tough time for me personally and I found myself at a crossroad. I felt it was time for a change and I always loved skincare. My love of skincare started with my first pink and black glass bottle of Oil of Olay at around 15. I was into all of the potions and lotions. I loved it so much that at age 46, I enrolled in beauty school to get my license in Esthetics. Me and mostly a bunch of kids. There was one other person my age and it took a little awkwardness out of the situation. I was 46, married, and had 2 teenagers and here I was cleaning the wax off floors and taking tests. This was the road I had to travel to get to where I wanted to be so that’s what I did. Oh, and did I say I was a smoker at the time? I enrolled in a quit smoking program first, then beauty school, but that’s a whole other story.

I knew because of how I grew up that I’d work for myself and since I’d always been part of a large group, I knew it was time for me to be on my own. Soon after I passed state boards a good friend called me and told me about a room for rent in his salon. This is the weird part, it’s the same room I passed every month on the way to see my hairdresser friend. It was the very room that began my brain buzzing one day with a small voice in me that asked is it a possibility? Could I do/have/be that little room for myself? It was this small one-room skincare studio that inspired me and gave me the direction and vision to change. I ended up renting the space. I learned a lot while I was there and met clients that are still with me today. I’ve since moved to a bigger space and offer an even bigger variety of skincare services.

I love the skincare business. I’ve met many estheticians from all over the world who have shared their knowledge and helped me along the way. Estheticians, overall, are some of the most genuine and caring individuals I know. I’m glad to count myself among them.

Being an Esthetician is a lot about relationships. I find that sometimes I can help my clients through the many and varied life experiences I’ve had. It’s a way to share my knowledge and wisdom with others who may want to know or who are seeking answers. In this way, I believe my age has been an advantage

These instances motivate me to keep learning and growing, personally and professionally.

I started my business from scratch, but it was built on a 100 plus year family foundation of integrity, dedication, and pride that is a permanent part of me. When I was a little kid, I remember my dad saying at the dinner table something to the effect of, “If I’m putting my name on it, you’d better be damn sure it’s going to be good.” My sentiments exactly. I give more than expected and always do my best, so my clients constantly get a better version of me. That is who I am. After all, I have a 100 plus year tradition to uphold.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Honestly, most everything about starting a new life at 46 was a challenge for me. I mean, being in school 4 nights a week and all-day Saturday was different for me as well as my family. I hadn’t been in school in about 25 years.

As I mentioned before, it was a big challenge to quit smoking. I’d smoked on and off for a while but for me personally, I didn’t feel it was right to go into skincare as a smoker. Quitting was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done. It’s difficult to understand if you’ve never had any addictions but there’s a lot of fear to overcome. Lucky for me Esthetics was the motivation I needed to quit for good.

With my other job, I was used to being a part of a group. Each person had their job, so to speak, and everything eventually came together to produce a product or a service. On my own, every job was up to me and some days would just knock me down. Skincare was part of it, so I had to learn to schedule, market, to keep books, do the ordering, decide the pricing, the look, the logo and so many other things, big and small.

The times it was over-whelming and I’d think to myself, “is it really worth it?” and that’s where your environment is everything. My husband and my kids never wavered in their support for me to do what I think I was meant to do. I’m so lucky because they cheered me on and motivated me the days I came home crying. To keep going on the difficult days I’d have to remember why I started my own business and what motivated me and for me, it is and always will be freedom. Freedom is hard work but nothing beats the feeling of determining your own path.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
The focus of my business is to give results-driven skincare with all the fluff. They don’t have to be mutually exclusive.  I’ve created a very calm, spa-like space where my clients can come in and relax while having skincare treatments in which they can see the results they want.

I’ve found that in a world where everyone is pushing themselves to do more, better, faster, longer, etc. that this isn’t the best approach to skincare. I think we do enough tearing down. In fact, that’s largely what I saw and experienced when I started.

I believe nurturing skin brings out its best. No pain Is a gain in my book. I take a holistic approach to skincare and do this by using high-quality botanically based and science driven skincare with customized treatments and various tools and knowledge I’ve collected over time. No two people are the same so every treatment is customized based on what results my client is looking for and what I believe will achieve those results.

Shortly after I started, I got my first Micro-current machine and from that point on I was in love with it. It’s especially effective when combined with fascia release to give natural facelift using an electric current and beneficial for many different skin conditions. It’s become a specialty of mine and gives the vibrancy and life back to dull tired complexions.

I’ve done extensive training in Healing Touch, an energy healing modality, somewhat akin to Reiki but more western in its approach. I incorporate these techniques into my treatments for deep relaxation and in turn better results.

I now have my own botanically based skincare ranging from cleansers to serums and moisturizers. I use the highest quality natural skincare backed by science. The trendy one-shot wonders are full of unreal promises. Rejuvenating Skincare strives to be results-driven for skincare lovers like me because consistency isn’t just the key to great skin, it’s a pleasurable obsession!

What does success mean to you?
Success for me is living my purpose daily.

It was taking the leap of faith to start this whole process and the persistence to keep going. It’s given me the freedom to follow my own path. It’s certainly been difficult at times, but it’s been the most rewarding. If I’m not challenged, I’m bored. I wake up every day ready to do everything I can to bring the best version of me. I get to spend my day with many different people while doing what I love, and there’s an abundance of opportunities to learn and grow. I meet some truly wonderful people.

I don’t have to go to work, I get to, and that’s a difference worth working for. I’m 58 and have no intention of slowing down. In fact, I feel like I’m just ramping up.
