Hidden Gems: Meet Aisha Taylor of FNPhenomenal

Today we’d like to introduce you to Aisha Taylor.

Hi Aisha, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My journey into personal finance began in the corporate world. For years, I navigated strategic finance initiatives, managed a $1 billion budget, and even developed turnaround strategies for divisions losing millions. Yet, despite my professional success, my personal finances were a mess. This disconnect prompted me to enroll in a personal financial planning certificate program, where I gained the tools to manage my own money effectively. As I applied these principles and saw real results, I started to share my knowledge with others with the hope they would be able to transform their own finances for the better. This led to a blog, a book, and ultimately, workshops and speaking engagements.

Life, however, had a profound twist in store. After leaving my corporate career for entrepreneurship, I experienced an unplanned pregnancy with twins. The father abandoned me when I was four months pregnant, leaving me with immense emotional weight and fear. My finances spiraled, ironically, through emotional spending, despite my background as a financial educator. This struggle, even with my expertise, sparked a powerful realization: if I, with all my financial knowledge, was struggling as a single mom, imagine the challenges other single mothers face. This pivotal moment shifted my business’s focus.

Now, I’m dedicated to helping single women, whether pregnant or already parenting, navigate life, motherhood, and finances phenomenally. My book, Navigating the “Impossible”: A Survival Guide for Single Moms From Pregnancy Through the First Year of Motherhood, shares my story and offers a roadmap for other women to thrive. I also connect with my audience through my YouTube channel, workshops, coaching, consulting, and speaking engagements. I also advocate for policies and community support that will help single moms and their children. This path wasn’t planned; it was a testament to allowing The Lord to guide me, and the impact has been truly amazing.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Entrepreneurship wasn’t my initial career goal. I earned undergraduate degrees in both Economics and Public Policy and earned an MBA in Finance and a Master of Health Services Administration, and untimely pursued a career in Corporate Finance. However, my “dream job” post-graduate school eventually turned into a nightmare due to workplace bullying. My blog, initially a coping mechanism, unexpectedly became my exit plan from the corporate world.

The path wasn’t smooth. As my blog, coaching, teaching, speaking engagements, and consulting began to grow, I experienced the unplanned pregnancy. I battled the emotional aftermath of verbal abuse from my twins’ father, losing my self-confidence and self-worth. This personal struggle was so intense that I had to step away from my business to prioritize my own well-being. It was through my faith in Jesus that I found the strength to get back on track. I relaunched my business, now with an even stronger dedication to helping single mothers, especially those facing unplanned pregnancies or unexpected single motherhood, after experiencing these challenges firsthand.

As you know, we’re big fans of FNPhenomenal. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
In my business, I help pregnant and parenting single moms to navigate life, motherhood, and finances phenomenally. I do my work by going to organizations to speak and teach hands-on workshops to help single moms develop solid financial management skills, learn how to build a support system, restructure their life to support motherhood and pursue their dreams, and developing mental and emotional resilience. Additionally, I work with single moms individually to develop financial plans. For those who have a business idea I help them to develop a plan to start and grow it. I also speak at events to help organizations gain support for their mission to support single moms and their babies. My goal with this is for my services to be free for the women directly and provided through an organization who would bring me in to work with the moms.

I also do advocacy work as well for single moms to advocate for policies that will help single moms and their children. I teach Bible Study on YouTube as well on topics to help single mothers to thrive in life and motherhood.

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
While I understand that not all single moms are poor or even working poor, unfortunately statistics show that single mother led households are more likely to live in poverty with single moms of color faring worse than other households. For example, nearly one-third of Black single-mother-led households are living in poverty.

In college I studied about the working poor, economics of poverty, education, and how this contributes to a cycle of poverty. Therefore, I’m very passionate about helping single moms who are in that working poor category or who may even have a better income, but are still trapped by financial insecurity to find financial freedom and economic stability and to walk in the purpose that God has for them. I believe that this will help the moms and the children to begin to positively change their lives and their families lives for generations to come.
