Today we’d like to introduce you to Nick Mcgrath
Hi Nick, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Growing up, I had always been self-conscious of my weight and how it made me feel (mentally and physically). Starting sports my last year of middle school, and taking that into high school changed my perspective on not only myself, but the way I guided my choices. I made a huge leap in my health and felt amazing.
Fast forward to college, I pursued exercise science, human nutrition, and business – not really sure where it would take me, but felt I had passion amongst these and hoped for the best. Upon graduating, I started a personal training job and ended up meeting some incredible people that fueled my passion to strive for more and see what else I could take on. When covid hit, it felt like everything took a hard pause. Although the break was nice at first, I found myself getting bored and decided to take advantage of the time. I’d always had an interest in sports nutrition and had spent short of 2 years interning with a company in the field, so I decided to brainstorm some idea’s for products I had always wanted tailored a bit different and couldn’t quite find and after some trial and error, ended up creating Metta Nutrition. The time spent nailing down the back-end of creating a new business with no experience and getting a full line of products up and running would definitely not had happened without the break during covid, which is wild to think about.
During this time as gyms began to open back up, I had clients reaching out saying that wanted to get back to working out, but weren’t necessarily ready to go back to the gym, and wanted to see if I had different options. Lucky for me, my roommate at the time also was a trainer and had the same thing happening, so we decided to turn our 2-car garage into a “gym” so that we could not only help everyone out, but also get back to this feeling of “norm” that we hadn’t had in so long. Wildly enough, people loved it, and kept bringing their friends and family to check it out. This snowballed into a 6-day per week schedule into the fall months of 2020, but as the temperature was coming down, we knew we couldn’t keep doing this out of our garage and decided to go all-in and get a local space in Gahanna to move the gym to. We knew we had created something amazing in the gym as we found that not everyone wants to be in a commercial gym, and that building a community brings so much joy to not only the people coming in, but to us. So at the very end of 2020, still deep into the pandemic world our little team of four friends and awesome individuals opened the doors to “The 1”.
Coming to the current date, we have built an incredible community comprised of fitness professionals and members that work directly with us to continue progressing their health in more than just a physical way. We have created an outlet for new friendships and built this community that people keep coming back for. This also gave me space to create a storefront for Metta Nutrition and continue building that brand as well.
It truly is wild to think how little pieces can come together to build something you had previously dreamed of doing, but take it to another scale. I’m blessed to have the people around me I do, that helped to make everything a reality, and so thankful to the people who supported me and continue to do so by spending every day with myself and our team and trusting me to take their health into my hands.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I’m not sure if I would say it has been a smooth road, but I think it’s smoother than what may have been thought just 5 years ago. Having a whole pause in the world during covid was something you can never imagine/account for, but having that time definitely made a lot of things possible that I’m not sure I would have been able to put together otherwise.

2). Personal & Small Group Personal Training at The 1 Fitness
The 1 Fitness is a boutique gym/private training facility that caters towards anyone looking to take control of their health, and make it a fun and positive experience. We have an assortment of coaches/trainers that specialize in a multitude of fields to cover any needs. My training within the business specializes in nutrition, weight-loss, and body recomposition. I have strived to create an entirely new aspect of group training. With such an assortment of studio’s out there, I wanted to create a group workout option that allows you to focus on strength training but hit each aspect of your physical fitness while still having that same fun atmosphere that allows you to workout with your friends. What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
Honesty. Whether that be directly with clients with training, or with myself when it comes to any aspect of either business. Being honest in knowing when I need help has been a huge piece. I think everyone’s goal in business is to have people around you that you can lean on so you’re not doing every single aspect by yourself, and I’m lucky to be surrounded by the individuals I am.
