Today we’d like to introduce you to Molly Degowski.
Hi Molly, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I decided to start a small artisan goods & gift shop back in 2019 when the office location I worked at was closing and the new office was going to be about an hour from my home. I spoke to my sister and she decided to join me in this new venture. We opened in November 2019 in the Village of Dundee, Michigan.
A few months after we opened the pandemic hit. It was a rough time for us as a small business that just opened but thanks to our landlord’s kindness we were able to tough it out. Through the pandemic, we evolved the shop into what we are now. We have added crystals, metaphysical supplies, and bulk herbs and teas with our handmade goods and artisans.
This Fall as our lease was coming to an end in Dundee a shop in Milan became available. We had to make the very difficult decision to leave Dundee and move to Milan. We have found a very supportive and enthusiastic community in Milan and are thrilled by the embrace.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Our biggest challenge has been the pandemic and trying to build and survive the ups and down.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about The Paper Moon Shoppe?
For us, it is important to support other small businesses, especially woman-owned- and minority-owned businesses. We want to build a community; a place where anyone that enters can feel at peace and find something unique and special for themselves or their loved ones.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
The worst luck we had was opening our shop just months before the Pandemic started. The best luck we had was choosing a landlord that was kind and understood the significance of the situation and allowed us to hang in there during that difficult time.
