Today we’d like to introduce you to Joseph Lisa. They and their team shared their story with us below:
SoLSTAY is owned by Joe Lisa and partners. Joe has been operating glamping properties through his company, Fireside Lodging, where we have been running experiential short-term rentals in places like Joshua Tree California; Gaylord and Atlanta, Michigan; and Williams Arizona. His partners have experience creating and growing brands, running service businesses, and developing properties. SoLSTAY is the culmination of our efforts to create a new kind of glamping experience in the Midwest.
SoLSTAY will be made up of 10 houseboats and 3 cottages. In addition to the different hospitality accommodations, our property offers other modern amenities. For example, we have a rooftop hot tub overlooking the bay; we have a sand bar with a firepit, Adirondack chairs along a boardwalk, BBQ grills and yard games, and many water sport rentals.
When guests arrive to the property, they will be greeted with a large mural crafted but nationally renowned muralist Jules Muckrock. This culminates SoLSTAY as a whole, offering a unique way for couples, groups, and families to unplug and enjoy life, art, nature, and the beauty they all behold.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
By having experience in the glamping space, building SoLSTAY has been a smooth road. The main difficulty we had was sourcing houseboats from all over because they are so unique and hard to find. To overcome this, we began building them from the ground up, as we have a very talented team with vast experience in building unique stays. We developed strategies prior to the start of the project that helped us be successful through the process.

SoLSTAY is a unique experiential lodging company focused on bringing people together to unplug and simply enjoy life! Our first location is located in Sandusky, OH, just under 2 mi from Cedar Point, between the Sandusky Bay and Castaway Bay! We strive to create beautiful, unique stays, including floating houseboats, waterfront cottages, and more to come! Our goal with every unit at every location is to engulf our guests into the beauty of nature. We also strive to offer many fun outdoor activities and amenities for guests to enjoy, spending the majority of their time in the great outdoors on our boardwalk, sand areas, enjoying the beauty of our (over 80ft long) art mural, or taking on the watersports of the lake including paddleboarding, kayaking, jetskis, tikiboat rentals and more! We are extremely proud of and focused on simply unplugging from life. We offer lock boxes in each of our units for guests to lock up their phones and enjoy time focused with one another. We also strive to create a great sense of community with many guests meeting strangers and becoming friends in our outdoor community & entertainment spaces.
What are your plans for the future?
SoLSTAY’s property here is Sandusky is just the beginning. We will expand this location to offer up to 20 houseboats and small events, weddings, and group retreats. We plan to expand to different regions of the Midwest and westward bringing unique glamping sites where guest come to experience nature, relax and enjoy!
