Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Cecere.
Hi Jennifer, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My health journey is my story. I’ve often been asked how a successful advertising/marketing/corporate procurement executive shifted gears and became a functional Health Coach. The answer is simple. In 2011, I experienced a radical shift in my understanding of health and wellness. My personal experience was so profound and life-changing that it compelled me to seek training and qualifications to bring health, healing, hope, and wellness to others.
Please talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned. Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I love being a Functional Diagnostic Nutrition Practitioner and am in awe of the human body’s ability to rebound and repair! In my personal life, I have grown to be grateful for the chronic illness I experienced because the process of reversing disease and gaining health has brought me to where I am today, helping others avoid illness or recovering from existing dysfunction as an FDN-P, Functional Health Coach, Owner and Founder of Fly2Wellness, LLC.
My story is centered on my journey to wellness, filled with obstacles. The biggest of those was to see things for what they are, listen to my intuition, and change my thinking! I experienced a dramatic mind shift and re-education on the human body, how it is supposed to function, and the difference between ordinary and every day. I learned, through my own experience and in-depth course work, that the human body is built for EASE and not DISEASE, that the body desires balance and wellness, and with the right tools and information, it is never too late to change, and there is room for improvement in everybody.
In 1997, I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. I was 26 at that time and engaged to be married. I am working in a Corporate job in New York City and am(was) excited about the future. My personality has always been one of positivity and tenacity, so it was natural for me to approach the MS with optimism, determination, and gratitude. I experienced tremendous suffering, including a period when I was completely paralyzed from the chest down for 72 hours. The miracle of conventional medicine (steroids in particular) brought me back from paralysis, and several months of determination and perseverance got me back to freely walking down the aisle! In that experience, it felt as if the MS had popped up out of nowhere, and it was simply something that had happened without cause. I believed wholeheartedly that MS was a massive part of my life, but if I were excellent at managing it, I would be able to live the life I wanted without incident. I accepted every setback, surgery, medication, and management strategy as a badge of honor and never complained. As I would learn later on, the real problem was that I never questioned any of it!
We moved to NE Ohio in 2010, and in 2011, after a myriad of strange, new, and worsening issues, I was diagnosed with a second autoimmune condition, celiac disease. At that point, I was confused, angry and curious. How could I have developed another autoimmune disease? The answer was right in front of me: my body was struggling to achieve balance and was working with chronic inflammation and undiscovered “root cause” dysfunction. At that time, I was introduced to a Naturopathic Doctor who started me on a path of discovery and recovery that included state-of-the-art diagnostic testing, a functional lens to assess bloodwork, lifestyle changes, and much more. It became apparent that the root cause of my illness was a lifetime of inflammatory reactions, and celiac disease was most probably my root cause – fueling the fire in the background all along. That hiding symptoms with medications had contributed to my illness and was continuing to make me worse. Maybe the MS didn’t have to happen at all. My work with Dr. B included nutritional supplements, mind/body work, herbal preparations, and a new diet appropriate for my body. She helped me achieve wellness in every aspect of my life.
I wondered why this information wasn’t known to me earlier. Why aren’t the lab tests available to everyone? How can I help people prevent disease and recover from existing issues? Disease management is not wellness. Why isn’t health care about getting healthy? The easiest part of my journey was deciding to become a Health Coach! In 2014, I enrolled in the Functional Diagnostic Nutrition Course online and went to school to bring hope, health, and wellness to others. The coursework was challenging and exhilarating! It was fascinating to understand how wonderfully made we are and how best to care for ourselves. I graduated from FDN in 2015 and have been helping people recover their lives ever since.
My personal experience with illness and the issues associated with it has helped me connect profoundly with my clients. I know how they feel physically, spiritually, and emotionally; I know what it means to be ill. I understand the courage required to seek healing and am excited, every time, to walk the journey to wellness with each person with compassion and a healthy sense of humor! It has been a long and winding road, but a worthwhile path to becoming a Health Coach!
We’ve been impressed with Fly2Wellness, LLC, but for folks who might need to be more familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Fly2Wellness offers functional Health Coaching and Root Cause analysis for people of all ages. One key feature of Fly2Wellness that sets us apart is Diagnostic Testing. These are laboratory tests, tests that MD’s are not running. I can put my clients in touch with the best labs in the country to assess and understand what is happening inside their bodies. With specific results showing the exact areas of dysfunction, I can design a customized health-building protocol for each client. I am assessing their unique disease patterns and reversing them permanently. Fly2Wellness offers a unique approach to healing because it does not include guessing and trying. Instead, it is focused on using the client’s personal history, diagnostic testing, and accurate interpretation of the results to identify illness and disease at the source. My objective is to make each client feel like my only client. I take the journey with them and meet them where they are. My practice includes a full-spectrum approach to health that provides for a healthy relationship with food, organic, non-GMO eating, proper rest routines, physical movement, emotional freedom work, and life coaching. I offer a free consultation to open the dialogue and comfortably introduce Fly2Wellness, allowing prospective clients to tell their stories and discover if Fly2Wellness is the right fit for them.
How do you define success?
My working definition of success is to have a positive impact on the lives of others. When applied to Fly2Wellness, I strive for success in every client encounter by giving my clients the gift of self-awareness, self-care tools to last a lifetime, and a true sense of empowerment.
