Exploring Life & Business with Jasveer Sandhu of Brow Tine Innovations

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jasveer Sandhu.

Jasveer, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I am from Northwest Ohio. As a child, I grew up hiking, camping, and fishing with my family. I was heavily involved in Boy Scouts of America and spent a great deal of time in the outdoors. My parents put a huge emphasis on learning and exploration. We traveled all over the US and the globe, giving me a unique opportunity to see the richness and diversity that is at our fingertips, especially in the natural world.

After high school, I attended Ohio State, where I studied Mechanical Engineering. I made fast friends and learned about the complexities of design and manufacturing which fed a fire in my creative personality I didn’t fully realize existed. I spent my free time in college in the design labs, wood shops, and machine shop tinkering and exploring the realities and limitations of design and fabrication. When I could squeak home during hunting season, I would get some much-needed time in the woods and fields. Although adventuring outside was not my primary focus at that time, it always remained in the back of my head.

When I graduated from OSU, I started as a full-time engineer in the Oil and Gas industry. I quickly learned the ropes of working on complex pipelines and fuel storage systems. Jetting off to different parts of the country, running multi-million dollar projects, and having the weight of confidence behind me, my career was off to a running start. For a time, I found my creative needs and desires for adventure were satiated.

Soon, I was promoted to a new role which I happily took, so that I would be able to stay closer to home and spend more time with my family and fiancé. I felt that it would lead to more time doing what I truly loved, being with them, hunting, and tinkering in my shop. Unfortunately, the reality was that I was never more stressed in my life. Between being stuck behind my desk, being constantly pressed to make calls that didn’t align with my values, and having my forward thought and creativity stifled by bureaucratic quagmires, I was at my wit’s end. I prayed about it and wrestled for months over my predicament.

Finally, I felt led to strike off on my own and start a company that allowed me to do what I was most passionate about and to pursue my God-given talent to create new things. I left the security of that company in October 2021. After a brief time of rest, my wedding to my incredible wife (Kayla), and our amazing honeymoon/adventure out west, I started Brow Tine Innovations LLC. I can finally work at something that I truly believe in and build on my experience and passion for the outdoors!

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
The easy path seldom leads to discovery… Brow Tine Innovations is creating new and innovative products that serve people. By default, there is nothing easy about that. Not to mention, I am doing it alone. I am “the company” for the time being and that means that I am challenged to fulfill all of the needs of a budding business.

The greatest challenge for me is understanding where I bring the most value to my business and focusing the majority of my time there. That will allow my strengths to build the business and shine through. My greatest value-adding skills are:
1. Creative and Innovative Thinking
2. Design Experience
3. Passion for and Experience in the Outdoors

The other principal difficulty is getting our name out there. Most business owners want their Trade Mark to become a household name but that takes time, consistency, and support from consumers that are engaged with the product. We ask that people try our products and share their experience with us and others when they love them. I also ask for honest feedback so that the business can become the best possible version of Brow Tine that it can be.

Why do I do it?
Firstly, I believe in the business. I know that I am bringing new and innovative solutions to the marketplace. Secondly, as a business owner, my time is my own. I have the freedom to schedule my days to suit my preferences but I also have the freedom to fully focus on the business when necessary. It means that I can be there for my family and friends when I need to be.

Last but not least, I believe that my efforts in this business best serve God and my family. Pushing others to enjoy and connect with nature will do great things for our physical world. Things that need to be done. Things like preserving and managing our clean water, caring for our ecosystems, and managing our wildlife responsibly.

Why Care About Brow Tine Innovations:

The world is plagued with inaccuracy and lack of conviction these days. It is so difficult to find people and products that are honest and authentic. I strive to be authentic in my representation of Brow Tine Innovations, the products that we create, and the reality of how we do business. No virtue signaling, no “half-truths”, no compromise in quality. Just great people, doing great work, based on real experience and passion. We will focus on making gear and sharing stories that are significant and challenge the way you interact with the outdoors. We will serve.

Purpose:
My goal as the owner of Brow Tine Innovations is to connect people with God’s Natural Creation and to help them enjoy that experience to the maximum possible level. I do that by creating innovative products for hunters, anglers, hikers, campers, and other outdoors people as well as writing about my experiences in the wild places of the USA. This aids in educating people about wildlife, hunting, and conservation issues.

Products and Services:
Brow Tine Innovations currently has one primary flagship product, the BrowHook, which is a utility hook for outdoors people that are 100% made in the USA. Its original purpose was to keep my gear handy while hunting out of trees tree stands. I came up with it as a lightweight and multipurpose tool I could use to meet my gear organization needs while avoiding injury to the tree. Besides making me more effective as a hunter, I have found many uses for it since its conception! We also have a variety of Paracord Cinch Lanyards that are available on out website. They are paracord tie down loops that you can adjust the length of. These are perfect for cinching down gear on your backpack, tethering your tools or weapons to your person, or extending straps or lines without having to cut up larger lengths of ropes. We provide them in several colors and lengths. I am also excited about several other products that I am developing now and look forward to presenting them throughout 2023.

Brow Tine also has apparel with unique designs that are made to create opportunities for you to talk with others about the importance of living in the outdoors as a hunter, angler, or another outdoors person. In addition to this, we have our camo pattern called Brow Tine Tropic that we are developing. There are several garments available in this pattern. Finally, I provide consultation services for a fee on the design and production of outdoor tools and other outdoor gear through Brow Tine Innovations so that folks that want to take their ideas and make them a reality can too!

The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and are any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
The Covid-19 experience that we all shared affirmed in me that empathy, honesty, integrity, and love for each other are paramount. I am sure we all have our stories of how people left these values to the wayside during the pandemic. We must have a heart for each other. We must give grace and lend a helping hand. We must not be the first to cast a stone. We need to pursue worthwhile things that remind us of these truths. Believe that you can make a difference and start today.
